Here is one thing you can do today to protect yourself from the "wrong number" text scam.

Do not reply, even to say "Wrong number." That reply tells the scammer your phone is active.

Instead:
🛡️ Block the number
✅ Delete the message
📞 Text 7726 (SPAM) to report it

Three steps and you are done. No conversation needed.

Gift card payment requests are almost always a scam.

No government agency, utility company, or business will ever ask you to pay with a gift card. Not the IRS. Not Social Security. Not your electric company. Not your bank.

Here are the red flags to watch for:
1. Someone on the phone says you owe money and must pay immediately
2. They tell you to buy gift cards and read them the numbers on the back
3. They say to keep it secret from your family
4. They make you feel scared or rushed

The moment you feel that pressure, slow down. Hang up. Call someone you trust.

Here is one thing you can do today to protect someone you love.

If anyone ever calls you and asks you to buy gift cards to pay for a bill, a fine, a prize, or an emergency, hang up. That is a scam.

Gift cards are for gifts. They are never a real way to pay for taxes, utilities, or legal fees. The person on the phone will sound urgent. They may say not to tell anyone. Those are the warning signs.

Share this post with a family member or neighbor who might not know. You could be the person who saves them.

A Dollar General manager in Beaumont, Texas named Edith noticed something was wrong when an elderly Navy veteran came in to buy gift cards.

Someone on the phone was walking her through a scam, step by step.

Edith stepped in and stopped it. The veteran kept her $500.
