Believe it or not, even the tomatoes get monitored around here 🍅 We've got one of our own sensors sitting right in the garden bed — same tech running out at Basin Roots Precision Ag. Figured a garden was a good place to test it out before we talk anyone into putting one in a field.

This is what real-time field data looks like. Three sensors, three very different readings — one zone saturated, two running dry. Without this, you'd never know until the crop tells you (and by then it's too late).

That's the whole point of Basin Roots — sensors in the ground, data on a screen, decisions made before problems show up. No more needing to walk the fields or check irrigation systems.

Want to see what this looks like on your ground? Reach out — we'll walk you through it.

Buried another soil sensor today — this one's telling us moisture, temp, and conditions 24/7 without ever walking the field. If you've ever guessed on irrigation timing, this is why we stopped.

Upgraded our field sensor setup this week. 🌾
We started testing with sensors zip-tied to camera tripod worked fine for a quick check, but summer heat, wind, and irrigation water don't care about "worked fine." So we moved to a proper weatherproof enclosure on a fixed mount, buried and anchored right in the field.
Small change, big difference. This is the kind of thing you only learn by actually running gear in real dirt, real weather, all season long not in a lab.
That's the whole approach behind Basin Roots: build it, break it, fix it, then hand you something that actually holds up.

A first look at the Basin Roots Precision Ag client portal.

This demonstration dashboard shows how field sensor data can be turned into a simple, client-friendly view for farms, turf, and managed landscapes.

The portal is designed to show:

soil moisture
soil temperature
electrical conductivity
watering response
dry-down trends
recent field observations

The demonstration uses representative data based on real garden sensor observations, including a clear irrigation event and the soil response afterward.

The goal is simple: make field data easier to understand and easier to use.

Another Basin Roots soil-monitoring station being prepared and deployed in the garden. These LoRaWAN sensors collect soil moisture, temperature, conductivity, battery, and signal data, then transmit it into our self-hosted monitoring platform for real-time dashboards and long-term analysis. Built and tested right here in the Klamath Basin.

Gateway Deployment:
Connecting a Remote Farm Without Traditional Internet

Our remote gateway is mounted at the farm and uses cellular backhaul to deliver field-sensor data to our monitoring system. Once deployed, nearby sensors can transmit automatically without Wi-Fi at each sensor location.

This makes monitoring possible in remote fields where normal internet service is unavailable.

Built on a Real Farm, Not Just in a Lab

Basin Roots Precision Ag began as a working project at Sunset Basin Farms in the Klamath Basin. Our current system collects live soil and field data through remote sensors, LoRaWAN gateways, cellular connectivity, and self-hosted dashboards.

We are building this technology around the realities farmers face: limited water, remote fields, unreliable connectivity, changing weather, and the need to make decisions with better information.
