🔥 A large landfill fire in Des Moines is an important reminder about the dangers of improperly disposing of lithium-ion batteries. Batteries thrown in the trash can spark and cause dangerous fires at landfills and recycling facilities.

At EAS, we encourage everyone to safely recycle old or damaged batteries at approved collection sites instead of placing them in household trash. A simple step can help prevent major fires and protect our community and first responders. 🔋🚒

♻️ While we do accept some sensitive materials, including batteries (even swollen batteries), TVs, and CRT TVs/monitors that contain lead, these items require special handling and are processed by trained partners who safely manage and dispose of them.

If you are unsure whether an item is accepted, please ask our team before bringing it to one of our events like the City of Des Moines MEGA SCRUB Event - Capitol Complex Lot #3 .

Free electronics recycling in Des Moines today thanks to Des Moines Public Works !

Des Moines residents can recycle all electronics for free today, including TVs, during the MEGA SCRUB event.

When a hard drive starts to fail, software may not be able to fully erase it, leaving data behind.
