McIntosh Monday!
Today’s feature is the MC3500 (Mk II) Tube Power Amplifier
Built for the road. Refined for the listening room.
The McIntosh MC3500 Mk II carries quite a story. Its roots go back to the legendary original MC3500 amplifiers that helped power Woodstock in 1969—and more than 50 years later, that rugged heritage is still part of its design.
Get up close and you’ll see what we mean. The substantial machined aluminum front, polished stainless-steel chassis, heavy side rails and those massive handles give this amplifier a tough, industrial presence. Those rails aren’t just for looks, either—the originals traveled on the road, and their design provided added strength and durability.
And at 121 pounds each, those handles certainly come in handy!
Behind all that muscle is 350 watts of tube power, eight high-power EL509S output tubes and McIntosh’s Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer, delivering the full 350 watts into 2, 4 or 8 ohms.
There’s something special about an amplifier whose story began with equipment tough enough to hit the road and help fill a field at Woodstock with music—and whose legacy is still being carried forward today.
A little rock & roll history. A whole lot of muscle!!
