So true!

Update time: I have transferred to outpatient PT from in-home PT. So far so good. We are working on building endurance, balance, and strength. My incision is still healing but it is completely scabbed over so there is no drainage and it is finally headed is the right direction, PTL!

I thought I’d take a moment to try to describe what my feet and legs “feel” like. It’s not easy to put into words but I’ll do my best.

I have to look at my feet while walking in my walker to know where they are and that they are going in the right place to propel my body forward. If I don’t look at them, they could be above my head and I wouldn’t know it because I can’t feel them like normal so my brain doesn’t connect their location unless I can see them. As far as what I can feel, pins and needles all the time, worse when medications start to wear off, when I’ve been upright for too long, wearing socks and shoes, certain touch, etc. sometimes they suddenly feel like they are on fire in addition to the pins and needles. I have similar sensations in my finger tips, up the rest of my legs albeit in unpredictable locations that change frequently, and parts of my face. It’s not fun by any means. Every step I take requires mental effort to think about the muscles that need to work and it what order so a step can happen. It is physically and mentally exhausting. Sometimes, if I get up and go to the bathroom, refill my drink, and get some food, sit in my chair, and eat, I find myself nodding off because I’m so worn out. I also struggle with back pain as my insides continue to heal from so many surgeries and my back becomes accustomed to the hardware.

I love and am devoted to God who is bigger and greater than all of this. I believe He is working in my body to knit everything back together and rewire nerve pathways so my body can work together again.

I continue to learn new ways of making friendship bracelets and am working on some beading to keep my mind engaged, my fingers working, and feed my desire to create.

Practicing my hand at rosary style jewelry making inspired by Linea Design Co. I can’t walk on my own due to health reasons that I pray are temporary so I’ve been getting into my jewelry supplies while living in my living room. I definitely need more practice with my links but I’m happy with how my bracelet has turned out thus far.

I know I need a lot more practice on my loops and I definitely need some good looping pliers and flush cutters but this was fun to make. I took my inspiration from Linea Design Co. My inability to walk on my own and not be able to sit in one spot of too long is well suited to crafts I can start and stop as needed.

I love to create things and since I can’t access my craft room and do all the things I want to do, I thought I would learn a new hobby. I never knew out to make friendship bracelets when I was a kid and I thought they always looked super cool. I happened to see someone post a reel about making reusable hair wraps…hello rabbit hole. I started learning how to make those, which I think are super cool, which led me to looking up wrapping techniques and knotting techniques, which lead me to friendship bracelets. I’m enjoying learning new things and I think it’s good practice for my shaky hands. My eyes have been exceptionally googly yesterday and today so it’s also providing quite the challenge just to see what I’m doing.

One a PT front, with my therapist right behind me the whole time, I managed to go all the way up the stairs and back down again in my house! I’m no where near ready to do it alone, or even everyday. It takes a lot of physical and mental effort, but it’s a step in the right direction. I am praising God each day for learning new skills and relearning old ones!
