Yesterday marked the 25th anniversary of a kid hanging a banner outside a small office offering to fix computers. Over half my lifetime ago, in the thick of Y2K fears and before most people had computers, (let alone the internet!), before smart phones and social media, I had no idea how it would go or where the adventure would lead.

Like every year, I missed the date until after it had passed. Having your nose to the grindstone means that sometimes you forget to look up and see where you are.

I'm taking this moment to see where we are now and notice the people that have helped us get here. As corny as it sounds, no matter how good we are at what we do, it doesn't matter if no one trusts us with their livelihood so we can do it.

To everyone who has been part of our journey: clients, vendors, partners, competitors, fellow peers and business owners, friends, family, everyone...still working together or long since parted ways...

Thank you, we wouldn't be here without you!

Your business email likely broke this week and you didn't even know it.

SPF?! DKIM. DMARC? Mike, is your keyboard broken?!

We can all agree that business email is critical. It has to be up, right? Many today would even say it's more important that email is up and working than phones!

If making sure your business email gets to the other side is important, then this post is for you. All the major players (Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and more) are raising the bar effective immediately. Sound scary? Like a fear based sales pitch headed your way? This announcement is from MS directly this week: get your mail records in order.

Don't know what your mail records are? Not on Microsoft or Google's business platforms and not sure how this will affect you? Here's the sales pitch then: hit me up, I'll check your records for you and let you know what you need to do.

I'll save you the read: It's Phishing and open remote desktop servers. Both are easy to mitigate. Business Owners: Please at least take care of the easy low hanging fruit; your business depends on it.

Two attack methods are the most popular - and most successful - techniques ransomware gangs are using to lay the foundations for their cyber-extortion campaigns.

Business owners and managers: Worth a quick watch. Insurance alone isn't enough. Security + insurance is the only way forward.
