We love a good challenge and when establishing an annual event identity it helps to be able to see into the future. We anticipate the years to come by embracing a combination of consistency and flexibility. Our approach: 1) establish evergreen components like logo lockups and/or color palettes to build brand recognition year after year and 2) create a concept and stylistic approach that can change up annually to keep things dynamic and loyal fans following along.

Just wait until next year’s (hopefully IRL) !

Our work with began with a fundamental question, where on the scale between generally Latin Caribbean and specifically Puerto Rican do we fall? Inspired by Chef Joancarlo’s heritage and an existing presence of Cuban and Caribbean options the answer was clear: put Puerto Rican pride front and center. And do it in a way that sets you up to expect something a little classic but not traditional.

For ’s we embraced familiar images of Caribbean themes and the Puerto Rican flag but presented them in unexpected ways. The color palette, halftone images of pineapples and beaches, and illustrations inspired by fruit stickers, come together to create a brand that is both nostalgic and a little offbeat - letting you know this is not your mamá’s mofongo. 🇵🇷

Developing a brand includes not only the way it looks but the way it speaks. For the for we struck the balance between un poco clásico, a little irreverent, and sí, even a little punny.

The Supreme Court of the United States ruled this week that the 1964 Civil Rights Act prohibiting discrimination on the basis of s*x also bans discrimination on the basis of s*xual orientation or gender identity. Something to take in.

For those of us who have been quietly sitting in our comfort zones of morality believing the problem is because of other people, the blatant racists, self-serving politicians, and dangerously empowered police, it’s time to add our voices to the groundswell. Saying nothing, doing nothing, means we are allowing this blatant disregard for humanity to continue.

It’s time for us to get involved, to do better. It’s difficult to know where to begin, but we’re going to work on these:
.
Learn, read, listen to our black friends and peers, pay attention to where our information is coming from.
Support black owned and operated businesses, support education and mentorship programs for black youth, expand our outreach when looking to fill job openings.
Donate to causes and campaigns working across the country for a sea change.
Vote, vote, vote. Local and state level elections across the country are critical if there’s any hope for systemic changes so we won’t be having this same conversation in another 50 years.
Black lives matter.
