Comptroller
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings/weekends
Supplemental Pay: Annual performance bonus
Benefits offered: Health, Dental, Vision Insurance; Paid Time Off
Compensation: $55,000–$70,000 per year
Role Overview
Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the Comptroller oversees all financial recordkeeping and transactional activity for the organization. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial data, producing timely financial reports, managing payroll and payables, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare monthly journal entries and maintain cost allocation spreadsheets.
Allocate pooled expenses (e.g., salaries, shared costs) to proper funding sources and cost centers.
Use allocation tools and trial balances to prepare forecasts and compare them with budgets.
Review daily bank activity, credit card transactions, and reconcile statements.
Review general ledger activity and perform reclassifications as needed.
Reconcile general ledger accounts and assist with monthly close.
Produce financial statements and support finance and budget meetings.
Manage invoicing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
Process payroll, payroll withholding taxes, and sales taxes.
Identify potential cost overruns and unbudgeted expenses.
Review monthly bank reconciliations, monitor cash flow, and maintain liquidity oversight.
Ensure compliance with capitalization rules and maintain fixed asset tracking.
Review depreciation, asset transfers, additions, retirements, and monthly roll-forward schedules.
Maintain registration and insurance for company vehicles and equipment.
Complete credit applications, lead new account setup, and assist with permits, licenses, bonds, and state certifications.
Perform special projects and other tasks as assigned by the CEO.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; Master’s or CPA/CMA preferred.
3–5 years of accounting experience; supervisory experience a plus.
Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and presentation skills.
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel; QuickBooks (Enterprise Solutions preferred).
Strong project management, systems thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with accuracy.
Service-oriented, self-starter mindset.
Must be able to commute or relocate to Water Valley, MS prior to beginning work.
Minimum 1 year of GAAP experience required.
