As shared by Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted during today's press conference, Southern Ohio Communication Services, Inc. (Socs Wireless) in collaboration with JobsOhio, Ohio SE, and Pike County Economic & Community Development, announced plans to invest $3.8 million to provide 1 Gig optical fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) high-speed Internet service over 64 miles to 1,300 residential and business customers in southern Ohio.
“We are excited to bring Gigabit-speed Internet to the homes and businesses in Southern Ohio,” said Gary Cooper, President of Southern Ohio Communications. “The availability of fiber to the premises internet will improve the quality of life in rural areas. Connecting homes and businesses to the world-wide web increases access to healthcare, education, business and employment opportunities, gaming, social media, and entertainment in the beautiful hills of Southern Ohio.”
“Along with JobsOhio, we commend and are supportive of this investment by Southern Ohio Communication Services, Inc. to expand high-speed internet access to a broader area of southern Ohio,” said Mike Jacoby, President of Ohio SE. “This investment is a step forward in improving internet connectivity in southern Ohio that will give folks the ability to work remotely and improve the quality of life in our region.”

SOCS are proud supporters of area youth. We will be in attendance bidding and recognizing the hard work put in by area 4-H youth. In a year marked by challenges we would challenge other area businesses to come out to the fair grounds Friday and Saturday and support the kids.

It is after much thought and deliberation that the SOCS executive team has decided to move forward with Phase II of our Covid-19 contingency plan. Our primary concern remains protecting the health and safety of our employees, customers, and their families by limiting possible exposure and doing our part to help prevent further spread of the virus within our communities. We believe that the following steps are not only responsible but necessary at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and rely on expert advice during this very fluid situation. We will communicate any additional information and measures to be taken as things change. As a reminder our office remains closed to walk-in business in addition to the following steps.

Installation & Service Call Guidelines:

SOCS is willing to Install new Internet connections and perform service calls on existing connections during the Covid-19 crisis under the following conditions:

Under NO circumstances will a SOCS technician enter your home or business. At all times they will maintain a distance of greater than 6 feet separation from any person. Please keep all pets and children away from the tech at all times. If the tech is uncomfortable with the situation they will leave at their discretion. This is to protect you and our employees from contracting or spreading COVID-19.

Installs:
1. A SOCS Technician will install a temporary Internet setup for you (Customer), and then roll back a second time when the Covid-19 crisis blows over to finalize the installation.
a. Customer will only be charged one standard $99 Installation fee.
b. Customer understands that the WiFi Router may not be placed in the optimal location until a SOCS technician completes the final installation at a later date.
c. SOCS employees will not enter customer homes for the time being. We can pass an ethernet cable with a power adapter through a window or other available entry point. Since we’re unable to enter the home, we cannot drill a hole into the interior and run it through the wall.
d. A SOCS Technician can either cover or block any cracks in an open window with clear tape or duct tape, or leave the sealing up to you in any way that you see fit.
i. Please note that you will be responsible for a service call charge if we come back to service a crushed cable.
ii. SOCS is not responsible for any residue or damage caused by the sealing tape.
e. A SOCS Technician can either instruct you how to plug equipment in through their doorway, or via phone if needed.
f. A SOCS Technician will make sure the outdoor antenna and/or Managed WiFi router are alive and passing traffic before leaving your home or business.
2. We will need to obtain the following before finalizing the installation appointment:
a. A new order placed on our website or over the phone.
b. Credit or Debit Card placed on file to cover the cost of the Installation & first month’s prorated charges once Installation is complete.
c. Your desired WiFi Network Name and Password.
d. If porting your phone number to SOCS Phone, we’ll also need an LOA Port Number form filled out.

Service Calls:
1. We will make every reasonable effort to restore your service from the outside of your home or business but under these circumstances that might be impossible. We appreciate your patience during this difficult situation but your safety and the safety of our employees is our top priority.
