Did you know that small businesses need to think about cybersecurity?

Small businesses are all connected. We all impact each other whether directly or indirectly.

Years ago a large retail chain was compromised. How did it happen?

Through a small business that had access to the large chain's network. Do you think it damaged that small business's reputation?

Hackers know that small businesses don't always have the money to be secure and if they have the money, they don't always have the staff to maintain it. If you had the money, would you hire the best people and use the best products?

As a small business, you need to take your information security just as serious as you do your accounts receivable.

Earlier this week, Rackspace made news when they announced that their hosted Exchange servers were compromised with Ransomware. If you were effected by this, know that we hope for a speedy resolution to this outage and that you get your emails back. If this didn't happen to you, wouldn't you want to recover from it quickly?

This can happen to anybody. All the details have not been released, but those small businesses that lost their email have one question on their minds; "Do they have good backups and when will my email be restored?"

Your email is important to you. Would you like peace of mind knowing that if this happened to you, you can recover quickly?

Your data is not guaranteed on most hosted email platforms, you are responsible for your own backups. Microsoft 365 only has backups of their applications, not the data, so if your data is lost, there is no restore option built into this nor other business productivity solutions like Google Workspace.

Third party backup solutions are available. If you don't have backups that you can use to restore your own data, then you are at the mercy of whomever is hosting your email.

Recently the president of our company was looking for some documents he hadn't used in almost a year. When he opened them, they were all corrupt. He logged into the backup we use and restored the files in a matter of seconds and went right to work on his presentation. No need to call anyone to restore an email or a document. Would you like that type of protection?

During this season, remember that it is better to give than receive.

How can your business give back to the community you serve? Why should giving just happen around the holidays? Make giving a core part of your business culture. Start with taking care of your staff and the community and see how serving those two groups changes the culture and atmosphere of your business for the better. When your community is your focus and not profit, your team will come up with more and better ways to serve your community.

We tried to tell y'all! Secure your smart home and don't sign or agree to something without reading the fine print!

Smart devices, such as thermostats, can be a blessing for a family on the go, but don't let what's supposed to be a life saver turn into a liability!

After many people in Texas came home to find their thermostats had be been adjusted remotely, they started to dig to find out why. Turns out they opted in to it when they signed up for their service! Listen in, and then check your accounts!
