Thursday 4-Round Tournament
Our month-long Thursday tournament kicks off tomorrow. This is a great opportunity to play a weekly rated game and improve your skills!

When: Every Thursday in June

Time:

5:30 PM: Chess instruction (1 hour)

6:30 PM: Tournament round begins

G/70 d10)

Entry Fee: $15 total (This covers your entry for all four Thursdays of the month!)

Details: This is a USCF-rated event. Please note that there is no prize fund for this specific tournament.

Details: We will be playing both rated and casual rapid and blitz games. Come hang out, enjoy some live performances from local musicians, and get in on some raffles and handouts. Stay tuned!

The Thursday Night tournament at Hive5 is a friendly yet competitive weekly tournament designed for players of all ages and skill levels. This month-long event begins on the first Thursday of each month and concludes on the final Thursday, with one game played each week.

🏆 May 23rd Slowish: Tournament Recap & Final Standings
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The tournament concluded after three rounds of intense, competitive play, featuring a field of 14 players. While the higher-rated players faced unexpected hurdles, a clear frontrunner emerged alongside several standout performances.

The Podium & Top Prizes
1st Place: Patrick Jan ZIJLSTRA (3.0 / 3.0) — Put on a flawless performance, sweeping the tournament 3-0 with wins over Baird, Kishinevsky, and Cale. His rating climbed from 1970 to 1993.

2nd Place: Anthony R WHITT (2.5 / 3.0) — Finished clear second and undefeated. After an opening win and a Round 2 bye, he capped off the event with a final-round victory over Yen.

Best Under 1700: Maxwell CALE (2.0 / 3.0) — Delivered a fantastic performance to claim the Top U1700 prize, securing critical wins in the first two rounds and gaining valuable rating points.

Key Highlights
Walter BURGER was the tournament's dark horse. Entering unrated, he secured two strong wins against Lopez and Sater to finish at 2.0/3.0, establishing a solid initial rating of 1259.

Sathish Kumar ANNAMALAI also finished strong in the 2.0/3.0 prize bracket after bouncing back with consecutive victories in the final two rounds.

🎒 What to bring: Please bring your own chess set and clock if you have them! (We have a limited supply of loaner equipment, boards, and score sheets available, but bringing your own ensures you're battle-ready!)
