Sushi Box Pedals

Sushi Box Pedals I build guitar and bass pedals. They're awesome. You should give me money in exchange for pedals. You're welcome.

Sushi Box FX has been around in one form or another since 2014, building tools to make things louder, more distorted, cool-sounding, and generally more betterer.

The Underground Accelerator has always been my answer to the question “what preamp should I use if I don’t know what preamp I should use?” I’ve been making this circuit for a long time, and I’ve learned a lot along the way, so I wanted to do a special edition of “the best version of this...

Underground Accelerator - Handwired Special Edition

I did something similar to this years ago, but I've learned a lot since then and wanted to take another swing at this one. Underground Accelerator has always been one of favorite preamps to grab when I don't know what else to use, and it never seems to be the wrong answer. So I wanted to make it a little more special. Key details on this one:

- standard 9-12VDC input
- internal regulated 6.3V tube heater supply and 340V tube plate supply for consistent operation
- Mallory film caps and Vishay film resistors for the audio path, mounted on plated brass turrets
- ceramic tube socket
- robust 4-layer circuit board
- laser-cut wood faceplate inset into the chassis face
- soft relay bypass switching
- "smart standby" - when power is first applied, the high-voltage supply is kept off and the pedal muted until the heater supply is stable and the tube is warmed up enough to operate

I haven't decided how many of these I'm making, but I have 20 of them built up right now, I'm planning to get them listed for order on the website sometime Monday 8/17.

So this was a lot of work.Maybe more details tomorrow?

I need to take a minute to gush about my wife. I first taught her to solder in 2014, and she immediately was better than me. When I told her a year or so ago that I was thinking about outsourcing labor for pedal assembly, she said I should just teach her to do it and she would be my new full-time assembly technician.

It started slow, she would solder up the piece parts and I would do the final assembly and testing, then I gave her more and more practice, and now I can just say "I need more units of The Watt" and 1-2 days later she has these ready to go. I still do final inspection of her work because I'm the designer, and I do final testing because she "doesn't know what they're supposed to sound like", but the assembly on these was all her.

On that note, The Watt is back in stock and ready to ship.

Behind every MORE V2, there’s a lot more than just solder and components. Every unit is carefully assembled by hand, tested and built with the same attention to detail that inspired this project from the beginning.

It’s been incredible to see the response from all of you.
Thank you for the support, the feedback and for making this little tube-driven idea grow into something real.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the process.

MORE v2 is now available for pre order.

dual tube harmonic enhancer designed to bring real high voltage tube feel and harmonic richness to your rig without changing the core tone you already love.

Running true thermionic tube operation at around 340V internal voltage… this is not a starved plate design. The MORE v2 delivers incredible clarity, sustain and dynamic response with massive headroom.

The bass cut switch keeps extended range guitars tight and focused while preserving the body and punch.

Up to 30dB of boost available with rich tube harmonics and enhanced feel. Works equally great for guitar AND bass!
