For those wondering whether or not the aftermarket mount for the international Lt will work on the international Lonestar, it will, with some modifications to both the mount and the truck.

The cylindrical spacers need to be shortened to ½”, as does the shorter, supplied bolt that comes with the mount. The panel behind the air cleaner assembly also has to have a bit cut out of it, along with a portion of the top being shaved. If none of this is done, the mount will severely distort the panel, causing it to stick out more than an inch from flush with the door, towards the top. Once all of this is done, it goes back together in a clean manner, with the only modification being visible, is the shaved portion of the panel, which is only visible from the top.

A free bit of advice for those who might want to tackle it. If this is something that you're uncomfortable doing yourself, it is a service that we do provide. We are a full service shop, specializing in sales, service, installation and repair.

Hold on to those astatic and road king microphones, they are serviceable. It's pretty rare that the element itself, goes bad. It's usually just a matter of a wire that has come loose, or dust in the ptt switch.

Also, astatic microphones, have been made in three different places over their history. They started off in Ohio, then moved to Illinois and then finally, Pennsylvania. Each time they moved, their quality dwindled a little. If you happen to stumble across a Ohio astatic mic in your travels, sn**ch it up.

The same goes for the rk56. Telex sold out to barjan, a little over a decade ago. They used to be an American made product. But when barjan bought them, they shipped the production overseas and cheapened them up. The way to tell the original from the cheapo, is to look at the back. If it says telex on the back, it's an authentic. If it says turner road king, it's a barjan mic. As with the Ohio astatic, if you come across one that says telex on the back, grab it up!

Even if these mics have issues, the end can be rewired, cords can be replaced as well as the switches, so don't throw them out. They're worth having repaired.

Hope this info is useful to someone.

SERVICE BULLETIN!

If you own or drive a kw t680, t880 or w990, it is within your best interest to remove the four allen bolts that fasten these caps to the mirrors of your trucks (5mm allen wrench) and apply a liberal amount of anti-seize to them and put them back in. It would also be ideal to run a m6x1.0 tap through the bosses before replacing them, to clean any existing corrosion from the threads. You could also take an extra step and replace the steel bolts with stainless bolts in conjunction with using the anti-seize.

The purpose of this post is that we've experienced a high number of these trucks in which these bolts have seized, resulting with them snapping upon removal. Kw seems to be using the cheapest, softest bolts they could source. After a winter or so of driving, the salt from the roads penetrates into the threads, causing corrosion which leads the bolt to seize.

By doing what's posted above, this will prevent this from happening. Your cb shop, be it us or someone else, will thank you, in the event that your antenna system needs to be serviced!
