Something we talk about a lot with builders and property owners: security should be part of the conversation BEFORE drywall goes up — not after.
Once walls are closed, running conduit for access control, cameras, or door hardware turns into a much bigger (and pricier) job. If it's planned early, it's just part of the build.
Access control is usually the piece people forget to think about early.
Things like:
Where do card readers or keypads actually make sense — main entries, IT closets, mechanical rooms, tenant suites?
Is there conduit run to each door for power and data, or will that mean surface-mounted raceway later?
Who needs access to which doors, and does that change based on the tenant or use of the space?
Is the system able to grow if the building gets renovated or re-tenanted down the road?
Beyond access control, this is also the window to plan for cameras, alarm points, and low-voltage pathways in general — all of it is dramatically easier (and less visually messy) before the walls close up.
