Two years ago I started illustrating a children’s book—today it officially launched.
In early 2024, I began illustrating this children’s book with authors Stephanie and Alyssa Owens, who created it to celebrate Slovenian language, food, and heritage for young readers.
A lot of life happened while we worked on it. Over the course of this project I moved across the country, bought a house, and welcomed my daughter, Billie. Stephanie and Alyssa also both welcomed babies during this time, which makes sharing this book with the next generation feel extra meaningful.
This project was especially cool because I majored in foreign language in college - culminating in a year spent teaching english on a palm oil plantation in Malaysia. I’ve always been passionate about cross cultural exchange!
This collaboration was also a full-circle moment for me. I originally met Stephanie years ago when I created calligraphy for her wedding through my stationery business Violet Paper, and that connection eventually led to this project.
I’m so proud to finally see this out in the world and grateful to have contributed the illustrations to a children’s book that celebrates culture, language, and family.
