Long but important post, please share!!!
In the past year and a half we have now had 3 clients be scammed out of multiple tens of thousands of dollars, and many many more in the hundreds. These scams have come in mainly 3 ways: 1. Receiving a phone call from someone claiming to work for a bank/credit card. 2. An email spoofing itself as Amazon, paypal, Norton, etc saying you have been charged for a product/service with a link in the email to click. 3. Being redirected to a website that locks up your computer claiming to be Microsoft and to call the following number. The goal of all 3 is to allow these scammers to remotely connect to your computer, where they hope that you have saved your login info to websites. If they see no access to your banks they take the route of showing you "viruses" on your pc and try to convince you to sign up for a yearly cleaning program. These prices have ranged from $100 to $1000, whatever they can get. If they gain access to your accounts the high dollar scams occur when they are able to transfer money from one of your accounts to another, claim the money transferred was theirs accidentally sent to you and can you please send it back to the account that they give you. There are obviously more ways, and they are very creative. It's no surprise that they target seniors specifically, so I urge everyone to get ahead of this and have a conversation with those in your family who may be vulnerable and tell them if they ever have any of these occur or anything out of the ordinary to first call you or a computer tech. They prey on fear and It's breaking my heart to see my wonderful clients lose everything they have worked so hard for!

Has your page been spoofed, or have you gotten a suspicious facebook request from a friend you already have? If so, the cause is most likely due to a public friend list. If someone can see your friends list, they can create a new profile, use your picture, and message the people on your list! To avoid this make sure to go to your privacy settings and set it to "friends only" or "only me"!

The Wilmington Police Department is warning the public about scammers using fake email invoices to trick victims into giving them access to their bank accounts.
