Residents of Winnebago have possibly received a little blue postcard that says “IMPORTANT NOTICE: RESPONSE NEEDED’. This postcard, at first glance, looks like it comes from your mortgage company, but it DOES NOT!
It is a scam intended to bait you into calling the phone number so that the person on the other end can get sensitive information about your current mortgage. DO NOT call the number, just disregard the postcard. You can alert the Winnebago City Offices at: 507-893-3217 as we believe that many homeowners in Winnebago have or will receive these postcards.

‘Be Very Wary!’ 76-year-old warns others of sophisticated phishing scam that cost him thousands
TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A Tucson man is missing thousands of dollars after falling victim to a phishing scam. The email he received was so believable, he wanted to warn others.
“They are extremely sophisticated. The psychological part of it, they’ve got that down pat,” said the 76-year-old man, who asked us not to identify him. “Basically they try to keep you busy so you don’t think about what you’re doing.”

Reporter Rebecca Taylor sat down with the man to hear his story and his warning to the public.

Instead of dealing with the reputable company, he was duped out of $25,000 by a convincing scammer. The email he received was so believable, he wants to warn others.
