iPhone users please be aware of the recent iOS 17 update.

If you have an iPhone and have done the recent
¡OS 17 update, they've installed a feature called NameDrop. This feature allows you to easily share contact information and photos to another iPhone by just holding the phones close together. This feature is defaulted to 'ON'. This feature allows you to exchange information with anyone who also has this turned on. This may not be something you want to do. Many of the privacy features have a setting for “contacts only”. If you exchange information with anyone then they will all be in your contacts. That defeats the purpose of that setting.

What we suggest you do is use the Airdrop feature set to only contacts. That may take a couple of taps but is much more secure than the sharing with anyone who you touch phones with (think crowded event).

To shut this feature off, go to Settings, General, AirDrop, Bringing Devices Together and change to 'OFF'.

PARENTS: Don't forget to change these settings on your child's phone to help keep them safe as well!

The news that Azure AD will soon be renamed to Entra ID could, with all the renames of the last few years, be in the "On a less serious note" section. And then many would think I was joking.

But this time the renaming will actually be valuable. There is a lot of confusion with this Azure AD. Azure AD is not a replacement for on-premises Active Directory. Even Wikipedia makes it clear: "Not to be confused with Active Directory".

This is one of the few Microsoft renames of its products that will actually reduce confusion and increase understanding of what Entra ID actually is - an identity management service.

Here's a chart of security stoppages for the last month.
(This is based solely on our small office, mid-level security program, currently protecting 255 devices. It does not include results from our basic security program or our high-level security program.)

What email link has everyone so intrigued the last couple of days? A lot of smart people clicked it. Beware of click bait people!
(Of course, we'll follow up with a few people to investigate the link they're being fooled by but that takes time and I wanted to get this out quickly before the weekend.)

Explanation of why these were stopped:
-The blue bar indicates web sites that contain malicious content.

-The green bar usually indicates a web site trying to perform malicious activity on your computer.

-The red pretty much always indicates a first scan on a new clients computer(s).
(Its rather telling how well free security programs protect you.)

-The yellow usually indicates an old program being installed.
(Old programs typically don't meet new programming standards and security exceptions have to be made because of that.)
