Ransomware showed up in *88% of breaches involving small businesses last year.* For large organizations? Just 39%. 😬

Why the gap? Small businesses are often easier targets - fewer security layers, less monitoring, and more pressure to get back online fast.

When ransomware hits, it can:

🔒 Lock files and shared drives

📤 Steal data and threaten to leak it

🛑 Shut down email, invoicing, and operations

Think you’re too small to be targeted? The numbers say otherwise.

Test your backups, use MFA, and make sure someone is watching your systems after hours.

Being small doesn’t make you invisible.

🦷 A slow imaging computer doesn't feel like an IT problem. It feels like a scheduling problem.

The workstation running a pan machine touches every diagnostic appointment in the building. When it lags, the operator waits, the patient waits, and the schedule slips - and everyone blames the software.

Muhammad was onsite earlier this month with one of our partners, Your Family Dentist in Falls Church, VA. He swapped out their aging Pan PC for a new one: old machine removed, new one installed, every application they rely on reinstalled and configured, then tested alongside their team before he left.

No "it should work now, call us if it doesn't."

He also swapped out a monitor for their server while he was there. Not in scope. Took ten minutes. And it meant nobody had to book a second visit for it.

That's what a real IT partner looks like - not a ticket queue, but a team that finishes the job while they're standing in your office.

Quick question 👀

Who actually owns cybersecurity at your company?

A 2026 survey from a leading cybersecurity vendor found that 84% of small business owners self-manage security - and 28% say the person responsible isn’t adequately trained.

In a lot of businesses, security isn’t someone’s job.

It’s just one more thing on someone’s list. 😬

And that works.

Until it doesn’t.

🖥️ Every dental practice is running on a server with an expiration date. Most don't know theirs.

Premiere Dental Arts of Frederick is a partner of ours. Their server is a 2016 build that goes end-of-life in January - meaning no more security patches, no more Microsoft support, and a growing compliance problem sitting in the network closet.

So we got ahead of it!

Muhammad was onsite earlier this month to deliver and connect their new server, get it online and tested, and clean up the network closet while he was in there.

Cable management isn't cosmetic… When something breaks at 7:45am with a full schedule, being able to trace a cable in ten seconds instead of ten minutes is the difference between a delay and a lost morning.

Data migration is scheduled for later this month. Dropping the hardware early means we can prep the migration properly instead of doing it all in one high-risk night.

That's the part most practices never see: the boring, well-planned version of an IT project is the one that doesn't cost you production hours.

📅 If you don't know when your server hits end of life, that's the first thing worth finding out.

Your office manager needed to reinstall Zoom. 🔍

She searched, clicked the first result, and downloaded it. It installed normally. Zoom opened. Nothing looked wrong.

By the next morning, someone else was inside your network. ⚠️

The result she clicked was an ad, sitting one line above the real site, pointing to a perfect copy of the download page. The software worked. The malware came bundled with it.

That's malvertising, and it targets the most normal thing your team does: looking something up and clicking the top result.

The fix is almost boring. Scroll past the ads, go to the official site, and type addresses you know by hand.

The most dangerous download is the one that looks exactly right.

The records you're holding onto could become your biggest liability 👀

Every old file, email, and customer record you keep is one more thing a breach can expose. Data you no longer need still carries all the risk and none of the value.

Holding data too long works against you by:

✅ Expanding what an attacker can steal in a single breach
✅ Creating compliance exposure for records you were never required to keep
✅ Turning routine cleanup into a legal question during audits or lawsuits

If it isn't stored, it can't be stolen, subpoenaed, or leaked.

Set a clear retention policy, then automatically archive or delete data once it's past its useful life.

🛡️ Cybersecurity Fact Check: Why It Matters 🛡️

1. Don't fall for myths - they leave you vulnerable!
2. Threats evolve daily - stay updated
3. Small businesses: You're targets too!
4. Think critically about vendor claims
5. Knowledge = better org-wide protection

Remember, in , knowledge is power! 💪

Stay informed, question assumptions, and protect your digital assets.

Cyber insurance renewal shouldn’t be the moment you discover gaps in your security. 🔐

Before the questionnaire arrives, take a few minutes to review the basics:

✔️ Confirm MFA is enabled for all users, especially administrators
✔️ Make sure backups are current, protected, and regularly tested
✔️ Review who has admin access and remove anything unnecessary
✔️ Check that endpoint protection is active on every device
✔️ Update your incident response plan and key contact information

A little preparation now can help prevent delays, coverage issues, and last-minute stress later.

That free browser extension your employee installed last month - do you know what it can access? 🔍

Most people don't think twice before adding one. But browser extensions can read everything happening in your browser: passwords, banking portals, client data, open tabs. All of it.

And here's the part that catches most businesses off guard: extensions can run completely clean for months, then turn malicious overnight through a silent automatic update. No warning. No prompt. It just changes.

Fake AI-themed extensions alone were downloaded hundreds of thousands of times from official stores last year - many with glowing reviews and "featured" badges.

Take two minutes today to open your browser's extension list and remove anything you don't recognize or haven't touched in months. Then ask your IT team if there's an approval policy in place.

What's running inside your browser deserves the same scrutiny as anything else on your network.

If you're concerned about your cybersecurity posture, send us a DM. We'd be happy to book an assessment.
