I recently saw a Facebook post featuring a story about Kathy Lee Gifford. Now, I am not promoting Kathy or endorsing her ministry project, but some of what she said is alarming and needs to be listened to with both hearts and minds. She complains that most people are biblically ignorant and even claims that much of what we hear from preachers on Sunday, needs to be thrown away. I believe there is a lot of truth in what she says.
Our mission at Grace Publications is the encouragement of studying the Bible through the correct understanding. As the Apostle Paul said, by "rightly dividing the Word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15). Yet, what we see and hear is the Bible presented as only a textbook to build better "communities of good people." However, there is never a doctrinal foundation (the WHY) that is built upon. This contributes to a "community" of people that believe they are doing and believing the right things, but they really have no idea as to why. In Paul's words to Timothy, he said that all Scripture was inspired by God and is profitable for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. Each of those is true, BUT, first in Paul's list is DOCTRINE (the why).
I recently heard a woman ask if, when we get to heaven, will sin still be an issue. Will we be able to sin and just not want to? All I wanted to do was scream! But why is such a question even thought about. It is because the person does not have a theological understanding of redemption, forgiveness, or justification. They don't have a clear understanding of the death or resurrection of Jesus Christ. They may know how to be a good and kind person, but do they really know why?
It is time, no, it is high time that the pulpits are filled with men who will get away from the "sincere milk of the Word" sermons and start putting meat on the table.
Over the next several weeks, we will be serving up some "meat" for your enjoyment. If we are able, we will begin doing a live teaching session to help give you a balanced diet. Let us know what you think.
