Here we are, 3 1/2 years down the road from when we started.
At present we're clearing out the buildings we're in. To that point, the 54 bales of plastic unfortunately need to be taken to Yankton Transfer Station (at $73/ton), and the TVs need to be taken to the Vermillion landfill (at $26.10 each). As you can tell, getting OUT of the business is a bit (financially) painful.
The goal at this point is to be DONE by end of September.. it's a goal.

Approximately 1.3 billion inkjet cartridges are used around the world annually and less than 30 percent are currently being recycled.

In one year, if the world’s discarded cartridges were stacked end-to-end, they would circle the earth twice.

Over 300 million inkjet cartridges and 70 million laser cartridges are sold in the U.S. annually. Despite the environmental and bottom-line benefits of recycling print cartridges, every year over 300 million cartridges with a combined weight of 150 million pounds are buried in our nation's landfills.

A laser cartridge thrown into landfill can take up to 450 years to decompose. Some components made of industrial grade plastics will take over a thousand years to decompose.

Eight ink cartridges are thrown away every second in the U.S.

It takes about a gallon of oil to produce every new toner/laser cartridge.

People can reduce landfilling when they recycle toner cartridges. Every remanufactured laser cartridge saves nearly 2 pounds of metal & plastic waste from being deposited in landfills. Toner cartridge remanufacturing saves over 38,000 tons of plastic and metal from landfills.

These recycling facts have been compiled from various sources including the Environmental Protection Agency, Clover Technology’s Sustainability Report, and Earth911.org. While we make every effort to provide accurate information, we make no warranty or guarantee that the facts presented here are exact.

FYI.. Walmart has a container for used ink jet cartridges.

At what would have been our 3-year mark (today), these are the numbers so far. Still in the process of clearing everything out (it's going to take a bit.. any volunteers?).
Once again, thank you to all who participated.

Made a tough decision.

REcycle-IT is shutting down. We are no longer accepting ANY materials.

This decision wasn't easy, and yes it hurts, but we are unable to process materials for a return that keeps the lights on and the door open.

We thank all of you for your support, and will publish the recycling numbers later.
