**Yarmouth Police Elderly Scam Alert **
Good evening this is Lt. Mike Bryant with an important public safety announcement.
There have been two recent cases in Yarmouth where Yarmouth Residents have lost over $35,000.00 after falling victim to an Elderly Grandparent Scam.
This scam is targeting the elderly, and is aimed at convincing you that a loved one has been in a car accident and needs your help. The caller will claim to be a relative in need of help and they will try to convince you to call their “Lawyer” who will have a driver come to the home to pick-up large sums of cash! Please do not fall Victim to this type of Scam.
Reputable Lawyers do not call people and request large sums of money over the phone to be picked up by anonymous driver!
The Yarmouth Police Department is currently investigating these fraudulent scams and we need your help in passing the word to friends and loved ones to not fall victim to this.
Yarmouth residents are urged to immediately hang up if you receive any call like this and to contact family members directly to ensure that everyone is ok.
Never send money through a ride-sharing package delivery service.
Help keep your family, friends, and loved ones from falling victim and spread the word!
