Famous last words. And words we hear all of the time. Right before business owners realize that they don't, in fact, have time to post it themself....

A lot of the time, people think of marketing as a tool in their business tool belt (and it is), but it shouldn't be one that you have to carry in YOUR belt.

As a business owner, you *could* write the posts, learn Meta Ads, update the website, figure out SEO, GEO and LPO, design an email, make a Reel, and spend an hour trying to remember which Canva template you used last time.

But every one of those things takes time away from the things only you can do in your business.

At some point, the question stops being, “Can I do this myself?” and becomes, “Is this really where my time is best spent?”

Sometimes...you need to let someone else carry the tools and leave the misfortune to someone else.

There's something extra exciting about seeing a brand we've worked on come to life. Especially on opening day! 🎉

Today, The Gathered Cloth is celebrating its soft opening, and we couldn't be more excited for them!

We had the opportunity to work on their branding, taking their vision and turning it into a visual identity that feels distinctly theirs.

And now, seeing that brand move from our screens into an actual business welcoming its first customers? That's one of our favorite parts of what we do.

Because behind every new business is someone who's poured a whole lot of time, energy, and heart into making it happen. Getting to play even a small part in that journey is something we never take for granted.

Congratulations to The Gathered Cloth on your soft opening! We're cheering you on and can't wait to see what's ahead.

Go show them some love!

We wish there were a magic percentage we could give every business owner.

There isn't.

Because a business trying to maintain steady growth shouldn't necessarily have the same marketing budget as a brand-new company trying to introduce itself to the market. And a company planning to double in size probably needs a different investment than one that's perfectly happy where it is.

So instead of starting with, “How little can we spend on marketing?” we like to start with a few different questions:

•What are you trying to accomplish this year?
•How quickly are you trying to grow?
•How competitive is your market?
•How much awareness already exists around your brand?
•What marketing pieces do you already have in place?
•And, maybe most importantly, what would a new customer actually be worth to your business?

Your marketing budget should support the goals you've set for the business.

And remember, “marketing budget” isn't just ad spend. It includes your website, branding, social media, SEO, email, photography and video, advertising, print materials, events, sponsorships, and the people doing the work on those efforts.

There are industry benchmarks you can use as a starting point, but they're exactly that: a starting point.

And no, we don't mean every Reel will result in three new customers by EOD.

But good social media keeps your business top of mind. It builds familiarity. It gives potential customers a chance to understand who you are, what you do, and why they should trust you.

So when they finally need what you sell, you're not a complete stranger asking for their business...you're the company they've been seeing for the last six months.

Social media is one piece of a much bigger marketing puzzle, and when it's done well, it supports the things that ultimately affect your bottom line: awareness, trust, leads, customer relationships, and repeat business.

Maybe we are being a little dramatic, but we're also right.

Consider this your official warning before you hit follow.

We spend a lot of time showing you the brands we build, websites we launch, content we create, and marketing things we have opinions about. But there are actual humans behind designBASE, and working with us means you get all of that too.

We have strong feelings about AI. An obsession with supporting small businesses. The inability to casually watch one of our clients launch something without becoming personally invested in how it performs. And a passionate hatred of excessive font usage.

So, in the interest of full disclosure, we put together a few reasons you may want to follow us...or unfollow us.

Either way, now you know what you're getting into.

What would make YOUR follow/unfollow list? Tag us if you post yours. We want to see what makes the list.

Wait...let us wipe the screen.

Because we realized we never properly showed this one off.

We had the privilege of designing and developing the website for the The Isabella Santos Foundation an organization doing some seriously important work in the fight against rare pediatric cancer. And when you're building a website for an organization with a mission this big, the website has a big job too.

It needs to tell Isabella's story. Show the impact ISF is making. Educate people about rare pediatric cancers. Make it easy to get involved, attend an event, learn more, or give. And somehow bring all of that information together without losing the heart behind the organization.

We're pretty proud of where this one landed.

Go take a look at isabellasantosfoundation.org.

A logo isn’t something to get you noticed. It’s something to get you recognized.

There’s a difference.

Getting noticed is about grabbing someone’s attention for a moment. Your marketing, content, photography, messaging, and even a great headline on a billboard can do that.

Your logo has a different job. Its job is to show up again and again until people see it and immediately think of you.

No explanation. No full business name required. No wondering where they’ve seen it before.

That kind of recognition doesn’t come from constantly tweaking your logo to match what’s trending. It comes from having a distinctive identity and using it consistently enough that it becomes familiar.

Think about the brands you recognize from a tiny piece of their logo, a particular shape, or even a glimpse of a color combination.

That’s the goal.

Your logo doesn’t need to scream the loudest in the room. It needs to be recognizable. Memorable. It needs to become unmistakably yours.

Need help nailing down your branding so it can tell the story of your business? Give us a shout. We love helping brands make meaningful connections.
