In our pursuit of finding a woofer that can provide the fine balance of impact, dynamics, and rumble needed for the ultimate Reference, we took our time (2 years!) in selecting a woofer because it needed to do exactly what we intended it to do. It needs to have speed and agility while packing dynamics and impact at the same time — a tall task for an IEM woofer.

We specifically chose Subtonic SLAM woofers after benchmarking them against Planars, Dynamic Drivers, and unmodified Balanced Armature drivers. While it takes us much longer to modify the unit in-house, the results speak for themselves.
