on lessons learned:

This year, I learned some lessons the hard way, first hand. I had a teacher growing up, that would always make the joke first day of class “two men walk into a bar, third guy ducks.” And damn sometimes I’m feeling like I’m still learning these lessons walking into bars.

But that’s what growth is for. This latest lesson? WORK LIFE BALANCE IS REAL. and I’ve got to do better at it. No more lunches at my desk, pulling all nighters, and super late nights. Don’t hesitate to know, that this doesn’t mean no late nights ever (lol I am a graduate student) but this does mean no late nights for the immediate future.

Here’s to doing better and LOGGING THE F OFF MORE OFTEN. ✨But first - a few tips that helped me learn:

▶️ put your phone down, at dinner and bedtime
▶️ find side projects that bring you joy! Not because of an expectation of money made
▶️ go outside! Take walks throughout the day to take a break and feel better throughout everything

And my biggest reminder:

🔸TIME AWAY FROM WORK MAKES YOU BETTER AT DOING WORK🔸

What are your tips? Tell me! I’m still learning 👇

I live in NY, Brooklyn to be exactly - and to be honest, while I read countless thinkpieces about how some tech-focused individual left a major city to live life in the suburbs, I’m not sure that’s for me yet.

Honestly, looking at recent numbers of COVID-19, I feel safer in New York than any other city in the country. The city has taken precautions and it’s taking its sweet time opening back up, which admittedly killed my summer plans, but tbh - whos summer plans weren’t killed. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Let’s keep flatting the curve and doing it together. Here’s to using probably more of that online time to make new friends, hanging out online or by appropriately social distancing🤸

“A question that could come across nosy in person, might be welcome and even sensitive in text. The remote nature of exchange dissolved typical barriers between people, such as needless stigma or over corrections in decorum.”
- Joanne McNeil, Lurking

Do you find yourself carrying yourself differently online than you do in person? Is it easier to connect with a supposed stranger than someone you know face to face?

The internet makes it easier under this concept of anonymity. And during these times when we’re all communicating online more - doesn’t this provide more opportunity for us to get to know eachother better?

Do you think the internet aids or hurts communication? Tell me why!

is anyone else FEELING IT right now?

Like really FEELIN’ like life is just one zoom call after another? I’m ready for this to be all over. But while you’re here — let’s talk about the internet can feel like a sad place right now. It’s easy to say, we’re all STRESSED!

so consider this— this is your permission slip to celebrate! Because there’s good things going on in the world too, even if they’re just little things like HEY YOU WORE PANTS TODAY!

In the meantime, I’m celebrating the fact that grad school finals are almost OVER!

What are you celebrating?

The latest issue is in your inbox and we're talking about all those big YIKES that technology has.

As a reminder innovation DOES NOT EQUAL technology.

Read more about this week's big yikes and what events you can find me at in the near future!

What that means for our very digital future.

So... what is it? 👀

We’re existing in a world where it’s SO easy to create things. Oftentimes, it’s so easy that we forget to think about the long term, or lasting impact of what we’re creating. Take 30 seconds today and think about the media, digital or physical products you’re consuming. Is it something that you want to be remembered for? Will the impact of what you create be something you’re proud of? If it’s not, how can you change it to be something you’re proud of?

Think about it. 🤔

Tech isn’t always a solution for everything, it’s just a way to better achieve a solution. In fact, some of the biggest workflow processes came with inspiration from the meatpacking industry (?!?!?)
