Custom Squarespace portfolio website design for Blake Mycoskie.
As part of a healing journey, Blake revisited the things that once brought him joy — and one of them was photography.
To mark his 50th birthday, he set out on an 18-month journey around the world, photographing the people who’ve shaped his life — friends, mentors, soulmates, and kindred spirits. The vision: to honour their impact with a portrait series, an exhibition, and a book gifted to each person who played a role in his story.
It was an honour to bring such a meaningful project to life. This custom website was designed to hold space for that vision — and to support its unfolding. A quiet, intentional place to share portraits, reflect on the journey, and continue expanding the gallery in the year ahead.
While the site appears minimal at first glance, the build was deeply intentional. A hand-coded gallery layout — built entirely outside Squarespace’s native capabilities — was developed to support the narrative and preserve the rhythm of the imagery across devices. It accommodates images of different ratios while remaining fully responsive and easy to update, allowing the project to grow without losing cohesion.
The homepage video presentation was also custom-coded — designed to feel immersive yet subtle, adapting to user behaviour while keeping the experience grounded in stillness.
It was a privilege to bring this unique vision online —
a living tribute to connection, memory, healing, and gratitude. 🙏
