I was following a thread the other day where lots of people were questioning why they should have a website when they already have loads of followers and buyers on Instagram.

Some of the arguments were:
➡ You have to pay for someone to maintain it for you and the costs add up.
➡ It's a lot of extra expense which I don't need.

Then I found this from an artist who said "I think perhaps it’s just more professional having a website showcasing your work. It’s not all about the sales. Instagram is more like a visual diary - in progress shots, etc. and somewhere to chat with other artists and your clients."

And that is absolutely right - you can definitely get your business started on a platform like Instagram, and even sell your work there. There's no denying Instagram supports your professional work and life with daily updates brilliantly but at some point you’re going to need your own website, one that isn’t ‘rented’ on social media and tells people you are a serious business.

Believe me it's an investment you can't do without 🙂

Don't be afraid of it - it's the magic trio of marketing and getting sales 💫 ⠀
⠀
👀 You have 7 - yes SEVEN - seconds to grab your visitor's ATTENTION, tell them a STORY and get your visitor to CONTACT you!
⠀
👉🏻 Your IMAGES should grab their attention (do they?)

👉🏻 Your STATEMENT should tell them your story in a few short words but maybe you're just not keen to push your advantage?

But isn't that what you want? ⠀
⠀
I know, I know, talking yourself up can feel cringingly salesy and damn awkward and you're a shy and retiring type too ... 😉

But trust me when I say there are ways to do this that suits YOUR brand and values. It does take some self motivation to cross that barrier but when you do you'll have achieved something wonderful! 💫 ⠀⠀

Currently working on a website for ceramicist and she needed a presence on the web in time for this weekend so I suggested a landing page.

What's a landing page, you ask?

When you need a web presence quickly for something like this while your site is being built, a single page with a short paragraph and great photo along with contact details will be sufficient to direct potential clients to and collect email subscribers, etc.

Don't let current commitments stop you getting on with your new website!

Some of you have asked me what I love about my business.

💫 First and foremost I love my clients and the super creative community that's the backbone of my business.

💫 It means a lot to me that the websites I build empower you, the creatives I work with.

💫 My calm attitude to creating websites gives you confidence and helps you work out your own future business strategies.

💫 I love the freedom and flexibility I have running my own business. It's a way of life and I could never go back to a 9-5 job!

💫 I know what I am doing. It took a few years to develop my skills, be confident in them and enjoy my work/life balance - that's a great place to be.

💫 And Squarespace, the platform I use to build your websites on has been a huge part of my business journey. I love them for it even if they do drive me nuts on occasion!

I've been thinking, and reading ,a lot about website accessibility recently and discovering how super important it is.

It makes your website — and its content — user-friendly and easy to understand for ALL visitors, including those with disabilities and limitations such as blindness, low vision, learning disabilities, cognitive disabilities, deafness, hearing loss, etc.

By paying attention to accessibility on your website, you show your visitors and customers that you value and care about them as individuals.

Check out these five essential tips to ensure your website is accessible to all.

Even though I find myself super busy at the beginning of this year I’ve promised myself that I will set aside time each week to work on my own business. 💫

Apart from focusing on getting my new website published and my social media into some sort of routine - did you notice? 😉 I’m also planning which products and services would best serve my clients. ⁠

Top of my list is to finally get my Blog up and running. That way you can easily find resources to help you work on your websites with confidence knowing I’ve got your back. If you’re not sure how something works then you can be sure the subject will be covered in my blog. When I have a body of information together and published I’ll be letting you know it’s there for you to access.

What would you find useful?

A simple to follow online course on how to build your own website in a few weeks? ✍🏻

A collection of templates for those with budget constraints (making even my very cost effective bespoke websites difficult to access) but who still want to get online.

The style guide is the beginning of my website design project with you. The guide comes together after you've answered an initial questionionaire I send you at the beginning our our website journey.

(This example is for a precision micro moulding company that produces tiny scientific components for medical research, a huge departure for me but a fabulous challenge!) Website coming soon ...

The questionnaire gives me an insight into what's in a client's head and is a great springboard for me. 🎯

The style guide (some call it a brand guide) is a really important document that keeps us both on the straight and narrow as we navigate this exciting journey of discovery and website design together. It's something we can each refer back to time and again, but it also helps to give us direction as the process moves on.

Eventually, the guide will be published in the back end of your new website so it's always there to refer back to when you begin making your own changes to your website as your business grows and develops.

Client Spotlight 💡

Just relaunched .prints updated website on Fluid . I'm loving working on this new platform! It does have it's foibles but let's face it Squarespace does too - and we love them for it!

Judith says shes really happy with the result and she feels so relieved it was such a seamless transition.

Well of course! If you use a professional the experience will be a breeze and your website it will perform the way it should!

I love the upgrade (Judith's site was 6 years old) and I feel it really reflects her work and ethos.
