As a Futurist, I love to research where we have been, where we are and most importantly where we are going. The biggest buzz word at the moment is the Internet of Things (IoT). Getting to understand it better, I have come across what some of the largest IoT companies are doing, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung and Amazon to name a few.

More and more the move toward behaviour biometrics is being seen, where even the way you type on a keyboard could be used as a layer in biometric authentication. This is being labelled as Adaptive Authentication, where even if you had to leave your PC unlocked and someone had your password to login to your banking app, the way the keystrokes would be made, the authentication platform would recognise it as not being you. This new form of Authentication is moving quickly and with the growth of IoT, multi layer authentication and security will be necessary. These various layers could include physical biometrics, like using your fingerprints, eyes or voice, geo location and even leveraging technologies like CCTV to analyse the way you walk to identify you as you, or a combination of all of the above.

ECCO are looking to understand these technologies, wanting to move toward applying these within our client base, to deliver faster, simpler and multithreaded options for physical and logical access control and authentication.

This is an exciting time for us and we look forward to engaging with you in the near future on what is available, what questions to ask, which OEM’s are leading the way in the development of these technologies and how they can be implemented into your environments. Most importantly for what benefit and how will they give you an edge over your competitors.
