Over the past few months, I’ve spent quite a bit of time working with the TP-Link Omada ecosystem, and I have to say — it’s become a very solid option for both small businesses and larger multi-site environments.

One of the things I like most about the Omada platform is the flexibility around its controllers. You can either run a software controller on your own server infrastructure or use a dedicated hardware controller like the OC200 or OC300. Both approaches have their place depending on the environment and requirements.

The software controller is ideal if you already have server infrastructure available. It can run on Linux, Windows, or even Docker, and gives you centralized management for access points, switches, and gateways — all from a single interface.

For labs, MSP environments, or businesses wanting more control and scalability, this is a fantastic option. I particularly like the ability to self-host it on-prem while still having secure remote management available.

The hardware controllers are great for smaller deployments or environments where simplicity and low maintenance are priorities. Devices like the OC200 and OC300 are compact, reliable, and easy to deploy without needing a separate server running 24/7.

For many smaller offices, it’s honestly one of the easiest ways to get enterprise-style centralized network management without enterprise-level complexity.

I’ve also noticed TP-Link continuing to improve the platform with newer Omada releases adding better topology views, VLAN management, reporting, and visibility into network devices and clients.

No platform is perfect of course, and proper firmware management and updates remain important from a security perspective, especially on internet-facing equipment.

Overall though, for businesses looking for a practical and cost-effective networking solution, Omada is definitely worth considering.

I’ve recently been experimenting with Ollama, and I’m genuinely impressed with how accessible local AI deployment has become.

For anyone unfamiliar, Ollama allows you to run large language models directly on your own infrastructure — in my case, a Linux-based environment — without relying on external APIs or cloud-hosted services.

From a setup perspective, it’s refreshingly straightforward. Install, start the service, pull a model, and you’re operational. In a Linux Terminal run:

curl -fsSL https://ollama.com/install.sh | sh
ollama serve
ollama run llama3

Within minutes, you have a fully functional local AI instance running on-prem.

Why this is interesting from an enterprise perspective:
Data remains fully under your control (on-prem / self-hosted)
No dependency on external APIs or internet connectivity after setup. No token-based usage costs. Strong potential for internal tooling (IT support, documentation assistants, knowledge search, etc.).

I’ve also added qwen2.5-coder:7b to my setup to assist with coding projects. It’s proving to be a very capable lightweight coding model for tasks like scripting, troubleshooting, and general development support — especially useful in a local/offline environment where quick iteration matters.

That said, it’s important to set realistic expectations. These models are resource-intensive. While CPU-based setups are possible, performance can be limited. In practice, a decent GPU is strongly recommended, especially when working with larger models or expecting responsive interaction times.

Where I see real value is in controlled environments — internal systems, secure deployments, or proof-of-concept AI services where data governance and privacy are priorities.

It’s striking how quickly this space is evolving. What used to require significant ML infrastructure is now accessible through a few commands on a Linux server.

If you’re working in infrastructure, IT operations, or just exploring practical AI use cases, it’s worth taking a closer look.
