‘Pretty Boy’ by Josie Borain opens 19 February

Known as one of the most recognisable faces of the 1980s, Josie Borain was also quietly building a serious photographic practice alongside her modelling career.

This February, Ultraviolet presents her first solo exhibition - a rare body of unseen reportage photography made on the streets of New York and Paris between 1983 and 1989.

“I’m greatly honored to have been able to continue my ongoing relationship with Lauren by printing my portrait of Vuyi, “The Farmhand’s Son” with Dog Ear Editions.

The image is from my series “On the Farm, exploring the area of the Eastern Cape and the farming community my heritage is from.

I ran into Vuyi one winter evening at golden hour and was compelled to make his portrait because of how the scene spoke to one of the overarching ideas I was trying to understand out there, that of childhood innocence and the way one views the world when you’re young.

Our first print is on show at Londons’ National Portrait Gallery until February 8th, and I’m doing a limited run of editioned prints with Lauren to try get something together to gift to Vuyi to help with his education.”
