A medical facility does not need to feel clinical.

Custom-printed wallcoverings - Halo Medical Suites, Paardevlei - of South African coastal landscapes — reed beds, dunes, ocean, a single leatherback turtle — installed across the principal patient and reception areas. A hand-illustrated coral tree wallcovering — the Erythrina, in scarlet against soft white — wrapped across every wall of a guest bathroom. The pattern is dense, confident, locally rooted. Above it, a beautiful chandelier from the hotel's heritage.

A hospitality installation at The Cape Milner.

The brief for a hotel restaurant and lounge is more demanding than it appears. The space has to work at breakfast, at lunch, at sundowners, and into the evening. It has to hold guests in transit and guests who have settled in. It has to feel grounded in its location without leaning on cliché. And in an open-plan layout under a glazed roof, where daylight is the dominant material, the design has to give the room something to orient around.

At The Cape Milner, the wallcovering does that work.

A botanical mural in soft green tones wraps the principal wall of the dining and lounge zone — palms, banana leaves and tropical foliage drawn against a pale ground. The composition is dense enough to anchor the space, but tonal enough to sit comfortably beneath the strong natural light. The outdoor planting visible through the glass roof above is drawn back into the room through the mural, giving the interior its conversation with the garden it sits within.
