Seasons Greetings from all at RiteTech

I picked up on an interesting story from MWeb, which potentially has a much bigger effect than their initial story covers.

The article covers the setting Facebook has changed to allow videos to automatically play in your Facebook Newsfeed. They say it can use A LOT of data and may be eating into your data cap. More than that – uncapped users would not notice the problem in being capped, but it could potentially saturate a client’s line, causing other sites to respond much slower than usual.

MWeb were kind enough to compile a step-by-step guide to turning off the automatic feed.

Save on data by following these easy steps to change your Facebook settings:

Important note: if you're accessing Facebook via multiple devices, you need to change your settings on each device, to solve the problem.

Changing Facebook settings in your browser (PC or Laptop):
1. Go to Facebook and click on “Settings” (Top right of your screen).
2. Select “Videos” from the menu on the left of your screen.
3. Auto-Play Videos: Select “Off” from the drop-down field on the right.

Changing Facebook settings via your Mobile phone (iOS/iPhone):
1. Click on the Facebook app.
2. Go to your “Settings” (Usually the bottom right of your screen and sometimes under the “more” tab).
3. Select “Account Preferences”.
4. Select “Videos and pictures”.
5. Auto-Play Videos: select the “Never Auto-Play Videos” option from the drop down menu.

Changing Facebook settings via your Mobile phone (Android phones ie. Samsung etc.):
1. Click on the Facebook app.
2. Go to the ”hamburger” icon (3 parallel lines), and choose “Settings” (Usually the top right of your screen).
3. Select “App Settings”.
4. Switch “Videos play automatically” to “Off”.

We trust this will help you in some way or other.
