UPDATE:

Disaster Risk Management Staff and Volunteers have started evacuating Disa Park in Vredehoek and teams have been dispatched to Zonnebloem to assess the situation. The ongoing blaze on Table mountain has spread due to strong winds overnight and which are expected to continue throughout the morning. Residents in surrounding areas are encouraged to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed. Motorists are also urged to drive carefully amid thick smoke in several areas.

The City’s Disaster Risk management Centre has advised the public that, should evacuation be necessary, residents should remember to take: chronic medication, ID and passport documents, cash, cellphones, bottled water, non-perishable food, a set of clothing, blanket and toiletries. Wet towels or rags wrapped around the mouth and nose will help prevent smoke inhalation.

Donations for firefighters can be dropped off at the Roeland fire station or Old Mutual West Campus, 91 Jan Smuts Drive, Pinelands.
All road closures remain in place.
