I recently audited a new client's current website with our tool... oh boy.

It rated an 'F' in almost every category. And no, they didn't have a bad web designer initially, but the site had not been updated or managed in years.

Contrary to popular belief, you can't just have a site made and expect leads to come pouring in. You'll need to do 2 things; the first is to drive traffic to the website with a decent marketing strategy, and the second is focusing on the site itself.

Algorithm updates, problems indexing pages on Google Console, competitor movement... there is so much to think of to get and KEEP your brand right at the top of page 1 of Google.

And then there are new factors you'll need to think of like GEO and AEO to accompany your SEO.

Who has time for stuff like that when you're trying to run a business???

It can feel like a lot for anyone, but the good news is that you don't have to do this alone.

I've been running websites through our audit tool. The pattern is consistent: most are completely invisible to ChatGPT and Perplexity. Here's the optimization stack most SA businesses are missing in 2026:

1. SEO: ranking on Google (most know this one)
2. GEO: Generative Engine Optimization, getting cited by AI models
3. AEO: Answer Engine Optimization, appearing in AI-generated answers
4. Structured data and schema markup that AI crawlers can parse
5. An llms.txt file telling AI models how to use your content
6. Authoritative, well-cited content that LLMs actually trust

If your customers are asking ChatGPT for recommendations and you're not in the answer, you don't exist to them anymore.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I'd recommend migrating businesses off Wix and Squarespace. Why? You could walk away with a faster, leaner site that you actually own.
Here's why we don't touch template platforms at Salt & Light Creations:

1. You don't own your code, try moving a Wix site elsewhere... you can't
2. Bloated JavaScript = slow loads = worse SEO and conversions
3. Limited schema control means AI search engines struggle to parse you
4. Locked into recurring platform fees with zero asset ownership
5. You can't optimize what you can't access at the code level
6. "Custom design" usually means dragging the same blocks everyone else uses

A template site looks like a template site. Your competitors can tell. So can Google.
If you're paying a monthly fee to Wix, what are you actually getting back?

I opened a client's Google Search Console recently... Eeeek!
They hadn't logged in since the site went live. The errors had been piling up for years.
Here's what every business owner ignoring Search Console is missing:

1. Pages that should rank, but Google literally can't crawl them
2. Mobile usability issues silently bleeding traffic
3. Core Web Vitals failures dropping rankings over time
4. Schema errors blocking rich results in search
5. Manual actions or penalties you were never told about
6. Sitemap submission errors leaving entire sections invisible

If you haven't opened Search Console this month, you're flying blind on your biggest marketing channel.

I've been building websites since the early 2010s. The ones I built back then would embarrass me if they were still live today. If your site is older than 3 years, here's what's probably broken:

1. Core Web Vitals failing, because Google quietly ranks you lower for it
2. Mobile responsiveness breaking on newer screen sizes
3. No schema markup, so AI search engines skip you entirely
4. Still serving JPGs instead of WebP/AVIF, which slow loads kill conversions
5. Security headers missing, SSL config outdated
6. Zero GEO/AEO optimization for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini

Your website isn't a once-off project. It's an asset that decays without maintenance.
