Mostly linocut and wood cut editions with a few bits of handset and hot metal typesetting included. I have a bit of a thing for palm trees and cycads, I like old technology, fish and plants by the look of it.

This page has very few people liking so I havent posted here about the Calrose issue before but perhaps there is someone amongst you that knows just the right person to make the conenction. Read the status below and some of the other posts and do try and help by spreading the word.

There is a small group of people who are currently actively considering ways to preserve the Calrose typesetting heritage, possibly in a studio or community workshop environment.

If you want to be a part of the conversation, offer ideas or suggest locations or funding sources please indicate by comment here or in a private message and you will be added to the group.

Many of my print exchanges were printed on the Vandercook SP15 press that is at Calrose Typesetters and is going to be sold if I get a decent price for it. I do not have place to set it up when I close Calrose and I don't want to pay for moving and storage to somewhere else.

It is a ideal press for linocut, woodcut and wood engraving art prints. Medium editions are no sweat. It can print cards and invitations, medium posters and all sorts of fine art books. Letterpress printing is obviously the great strength and it has been used for this in a proofing capacity since new around 1970 at Calrose. It comes with the standard accessories and a spare set of ink rollers. It has (recently repaired) motorised ink distribution, a quick lock up bar and a type high bed (0.918")

2010 - Crazy World?

I tried my hand at a linocut without a key block next. This is a reasonably famous scene from an old B&W movie. I took a picture of it playing on the TV with my mobile phone. Did some work in Corel Photopaint to reduce it to 3 grey tones. Printed them out and then spent much time trying to transfer them to the lino. After many high-tech attempts I resorted to using carbon paper which is a safe fall back. Even thought there were only two blocks the register was a bit tricky because I had straight edges on 3 sides. I used some artist oil colour for the grey ink and found it takes a LONG time to dry perhaps because it is based on slate powder for pigment .

You can see the rather nice end result at
