This is what our industry is all about ❤️
They say the event begins when the curtain rises. But for us, the tech crew, the performance is perpetual, played out in shadows and exhaustion. We are the ghosts of the events world, the ones who make the magic possible but never take a bow.
We start when the city sleeps. The roar of the truck ramp dropping is our overture. Under the unforgiving glare of work lights, we haul the impossible flightcases heavier than a man, steel scaffolding, and the delicate instruments that hold the audience's gaze. Every aching muscle, every blister, every back spasm is a quiet prayer to the clock, demanding we be faster, stronger, better. This isn't just lifting; it's a desperate race against the schedule, fuelled by stale coffee, no meal breaks, dry run rehersals, and the silent understanding that failure is not an option.
Then, the show happens. A symphony of light, sound, action and cheers. We are waiting in the wings, contolling it all with precision, proudly and silently, watching the very setup we bled to make sure the show must go on. And just as the last applause fades—when the stars are high and the guests start drifting home to sleep, our curtain rises again and we keep going.
Load-out. It's a brutal, mournful ballet of destruction. The glamour is gone. The energy is spent. It's just us, the memories of another sucessful event, and the deep, cold weight of the gear. We dismantle the dream, piece by agonizing piece, reversing the magic until the venue is bare again.
When the last flightcase is loaded, and the vehicle doors slam shut, we don't cheer. We just lean against the truck, inhaling the night air, feeling the profound emptiness but a lot of pride of what we achieved in the now-vacant venue. We built a world for clients, lived in it for a few hours, and then tore it down. We carry the memory of the light and the audio in our weary bones, knowing that in a few hours, the calltimes start and we will do it all again with a smile.
We are the Crew. We are the unsung, the overworked, the ones who carry the weight of the spectacle so you only have to carry the memory of the song. Remember us always when the event begins ❤️👏
