Command Quality takes staff development and training seriously. During the second week in September our first intake of Future Leaders attended “The Next Manager” course at the GIBS School of Business here in Johannesburg.

The course’s key focus areas included building a personal brand based on feedback, building leadership presence and management philosophy, and managing both your team and your boss.

Feedback from all Command Quality attendees was positive and their optimism to start implementing new knowledge inspiring.

One of the charities Command Quality supports is CHOC, the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa.

On 9 September we took part in the CHOC Cyclethon in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. The weather was good, spirits were high, and it was especially heartwarming to see so many companies getting involved to raise funds for this special charity.

Command Quality is celebrating another of its go-getting woman in tech today. Here’s Philile Mahlalela, one of our talented quality engineers:

‘Choosing a path in IT wasn't just a career decision; it was a way to break boundaries, create solutions, and contribute to progress. The challenges I faced while growing up only fuelled my determination to succeed in a field that could make a difference, not just for me, but for my community and beyond.’

Mbali is another fiery Command Quality woman in tech. As with the others, she is a force to be reckoned with.

‘I did Computer Applications Technology in high school but changed course – I didn’t quite get it and it didn’t help that we were too many in the class and had to share computers. I applied to study Science at varsity, but I was not selected. In January I had to choose from the courses that we not full and I chose IT.

‘So, I did Software Development at varsity, and it was okay, but I didn’t enjoy it that much. Fast forward to when I started working and when I got to understand the impact technology has and how it can change our lives for the better. Being someone who is curious and enjoys solving problems it made perfect sense to me.

‘Working in a field where there is constant change that requires you to adapt quickly and find better ways of doing things is challenging. It has helped me to be consistent. I always say that I’m not the smartest or best in the room, but I trust my consistency –it is my tool.

‘IT has also helped me to be truly authentic; I must be honest with myself and hold myself accountable for my failures. I constantly need to review my work and decide on how I can approve, but I also get to celebrate my wins.

‘As much as there are seasons in life, there are also seasons in our careers. There are seasons for failure, for learning, and being comfortable and uncomfortable, but every season is important as it moulds us to be improved versions of ourselves and do better.’

Command Quality spoiled its female employees with an exquisite High Tea at the Montecasino Palazzo Hotel. The pastries and cakes were delectable, as was the sparkling wine and the variety of teas.

It was most inspirational Women’s Day in quite a while. We lifted each other, comforted one another, and celebrated our strengths and accomplishments. This verse of a beloved Maya Angelou poem comes to mind: “Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I'll rise.”

An afternoon to remember.

Meet Tintswalo Chongo, one of our quality engineers. We are celebrating women in tech this month and are delighted to shine the spotlight on Tintswalo.

‘I grew up in a family of a lot of girls and I needed to do something that would make me different and being in IT was the best thing to make me unique and stand out.

'Today, I am unique among my beloved siblings, and I am constantly exploring opportunities to better myself, for myself.’

‘I always wondered how the apps on a mobile phone get to do what I selected it to do. Then I was introduced to IT when I attended a career exhibition and as soon as I received my university application forms, I eagerly applied for it. I was so excited, knowing that I was one step closer to be one of the best, the innovative people who build apps that allowed people around the world to communicate with each other.’

Our women in tech spotlight today falls on Daisy Hlungwani, one of our performance testers.

Command Quality celebrates women in tech this month. Here’s our Delivery Manager, Khanya Khanyile:

‘In The Leader Who Had No Title, Robin Sharma said, “Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It's about impact, influence, and inspiration.”

‘11 years ago, I was entrusted with a unique platform as a capable qualified female to lead and drive IT QA Strategy to embed the paramount importance of Software Testing with our IT peers and business stakeholders.

‘Being a woman in tech I have a responsibility to teach and grow young females to awaken the leader in them and navigate this tech world without fear, but rather with courage, enthusiasm, and a passion to explore the endless possibilities of technology.’

Command Quality is celebrating women in tech this month. Here is Nobuhle’s story, and it’s quite an inspirational one!

‘I did not choose IT. I remember the time after I’ve written matric very well, because my parents and I had huge fights. (For the record, one thing you should know about me is that I am not that smart, I do not even consider myself an average learner because I must work twice as hard as an average learner to obtain a 50%. So, I am a hard worker.)

‘Okay, back to the story. I had passed my matric with average marks and none of the top universities wanted me, so I had to upgrade my matric in 2016 (yes, I am that young). In 2017 I applied at Vaal University of Technology to complete a diploma in something (first choice was Safety because I always saw myself working in overalls). Guess what, I still did not qualify. There was only one option left, which was doing an extended program in IT so I can be admitted into something.

‘My mom and dad gave me an ultimatum: either do the extended program or go work somewhere. Now the pressure was real because all my age mates were in second year by then and I was doing an extended program.

‘A year later I started the actual diploma in IT, fell in love with it in the second year, and, of course, was nailing it with distinctions!

‘I obtained my diploma in record time, the advanced diploma record time, postgraduate diploma (aka honours) and yes, in record time. I am currently doing my master’s in IT, and I hope in record time, too.

'In conclusion, moms know best. My mom is the reason why I chose IT. So, as we celebrate women this month, I celebrate my mom as the Woman in Tech!’
