Fifty years ago, the youth of 1976 stood up against a system designed to limit their potential. They demanded access to education, opportunity, dignity, and a future of their own making.🇿🇦

Today, the barriers may look different, but the mission remains the same.

In a world shaped by technology, access is power. Access to information. Access to learning. Access to opportunity.

At YOMO, we’re committed to connecting one million young South Africans to the digital tools and opportunities they need to thrive. Because true freedom isn’t just about where we’ve come from ,it’s about what every young person can become.✊🏾

From the streets of Soweto to the world stage, the spirit of youth continues to move South Africa forward.

Connected. Empowered. Unstoppable.

On 22 May, the Yomo team, in partnership with , and the National Youth Service, kicked off the A Million Connected Youth Campaign in Newcastle, KZN— engaging with learners at uMzilikazi Secondary High School and Sabela Senior Secondary High School as part of a national movement to connect young South Africans to opportunity.

As we commemorate 50 years since the 1976 Youth Uprising, this campaign continues the legacy of a generation that fought for access, dignity, and a better future for young people in South Africa.

Today, our youth is stepping into a new world shaped by technology, connectivity, skills, and opportunity — making access to information, learning, and digital platforms more important than ever before.

From online learning and digital tools within the Yomoverse, to matric support through Matric Corner, Yomo is committed to putting SIM cards — and meaningful access — into the hands of a million young people across South Africa.

This is more than connectivity.
It’s access to the future.

The 1976, June 16th Youth Uprising, remains one of the most defining moments in South Africa’s history!

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 1976 uprisings, and in partnership with the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention and National Youth Development Agency, YOMO honours the courage and sacrifice of the Class of 1976.

50 years ago, young people stood up for access to quality and dignified education. Today, the challenge has evolved. Young people are navigating a world that moves faster, demands more, and creates new paths every day. Opportunity is not defined by a single route; it’s shaped by skills, access, and the ability to stay connected. The A Million Connected Youth Campaign is a movement built to meet this moment. It’s focused on connecting South African youth across cities, townships, and rural communities with the tools, platforms, and opportunities that move them forward.

YOMO equips youth with mobile access to online learning support, skills development, and post-school pathways.
The Matric Corner is a dedicated space within the YomoVerse that provides access to matric support resources, exam preparation content, career guidance, and information to help learners transition beyond high school.
