FCTEC was proud to attend the 2nd Annual National Records Management Conference at UNISA's Muckleneuk Campus in Pretoria from 26–27 August 2026 two days buzzing with insight, innovation and connection, bringing together archivists, records managers and technologists from across South Africa.

Some real highlights for our team: a shout-out for our InoTec SCAMAX scanners, and the chance to sponsor an award for Ms Marveline Ngwenya, who was crowned South Africa's first Records Manager of the Year! As part of her prize, she'll be joining us at the FCTEC Digitisation Conference in 2027 - we can't wait to host her.

Events like these remind us why this work matters. Meeting the people who care for our nation's records every day helps us build tools that make their jobs easier and their archives stronger.

Congratulations, Ms Ngwenya, well deserved! πŸŽ‰

Another unforgettable African Evening, this time in Busan! 🌍✨

Following the wonderful African evenings we hosted in Rotterdam and Astana, FCTEC was proud to bring African delegates together once again during IFLA WLIC 2026.

On Wednesday, 12 August, we welcomed over 100 colleagues, partners and friends from across Africa's library and archive community to The Westin Josun Busan for an evening of connection, celebration, and shared purpose. πŸ₯‚

Evenings like these have become a tradition we're deeply proud of. Wherever IFLA takes us next, bringing African delegates together for a night of community remains one of the highlights of our year, a chance to celebrate the people and institutions driving library and archive transformation across the continent.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Busan, and to all who have made these evenings a recurring highlight since Rotterdam and Astana. Here's to the next one!🌍

πŸ—„οΈ FCTEC was proud to attend the 2026 Annual Conference of the South African Society of Archivists (SASA) as a member of the association!

The programme was steered by Programme Director Ms Winnie Mangotlo, with SASA President Dr Maite Manganye officially opening proceedings. The keynote address was delivered on behalf of the MEC for the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Hon. Jerry Maseko, represented by Dr Lucky Vuma.

The conference received messages of support from the National Archives and Records Service of South Africa, the Library and Information Association of South Africa, UNISA Library & Information Services, the Provincial Archives Advisory Council of Limpopo, the Oral History Association of South Africa, and the SASA Limpopo Chapter.

It's always a pleasure for our team to reconnect with, and learn alongside, fellow professionals in the archives and records sector! πŸ“š

πŸ“Š Friday Fact: South Africa's public sector generates billions of paper documents annually and many are never properly digitised or preserved.

This creates real risks: lost records, compliance failures, and poor service delivery.

Digitisation solves this. And it's more affordable than most organisations think. Ask FCTEC how.

πŸ“‚ Every day an archive sits undigitised, we risk losing it forever.

We sat down with Reinhardt Hartzenberg, Head of Digitisation and Data Preservation at the KZN Department of Sport, Arts & Culture, at the FCTEC Digitisation Conference for an honest conversation about what preservation actually looks like on the ground.

The responsibility. The technology. The transformation.

From introducing high-volume scanners into the KZN Archives workflow, to helping establish Isivivane SoLwazi as a thriving space for digitisation dialogue across South Africa, Reinhardt's work is a blueprint for what becomes possible when institutions decide to act.

If your organisation is still holding onto physical records and hasn't taken the leap, this conversation is for you. πŸ‘‡

It’s always an honour to engage with a vibrant community of professionals across the sector.
From reconnecting with familiar faces to building meaningful new connections, the experience was both inspiring and enriching.

We were especially excited to showcase the possibilities our solutions bring to archives and libraries demonstrating the SMA Electronic Document GmbH scanner and engaging in insightful conversations around preservation, digitisation, and access.
Addressing real challenges and answering thoughtful questions reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in shaping the future of our industry.

Beyond the conference, Zambia’s breath-taking scenery made the experience even more memorable reminding us of the cultural and
historical richness we are all working to preserve.

Thank you to everyone who connected with us, we look forward to continuing these conversations and partnerships.
