Software Developer
Location: Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha)

Systems Services Group is a leading ICT solutions provider, seeking a Software Developer to join our team in Gqeberha. This is a hands-on development role responsible for maintaining and enhancing a portfolio of existing business applications across Microsoft and open-source environments.
Key Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
• Minimum 3+ years hands-on software development
experience
• Relevant ICT qualification (diploma or degree)
• Proven ability to maintain and support existing production applications
• Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of tasks
• Strong problem solving and debugging skills
Technical skills
Microsoft stack
• Development and maintenance of Microsoft-based applications
• Experience with .NET, C #, VB.NET, or similar Microsoft technologies
• Working knowledge of MS SQL Server
• Understanding of Windows environments and deployment
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and related tools
Microsoft portal & SharePoint administration
• Comfortable performing Microsoft 365 portal admin duties, user management, licencing, and service configuration
• Experience maintaining and developing SharePoint sites
• Proficiency with InfoPath for form design and workflow integration
• Working knowledge of SharePoint Designer for site customisation, workflows, and branding
Web & front-end development
• Working knowledge of JavaScript (JS), client-side scripting, DOM manipulation, and event handling
• Competent in HTML and CSS, building and maintaining web-based interfaces
• Ability to troubleshoot and enhance existing front-end implementations
Open source / LAMP stack
• Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP experience, JS
• Web application maintenance and debugging
• Basic server-side scripting and database query skills
Mobile / Android development
• Experience developing Android applications, particularly for industrial or warehouse scanner devices
• Familiarity with barcode/scanner hardware integration (e.g. Zebra, Honeywell, or similar)
• Ability to build, maintain, and deploy lightweight Android apps for operational environments
EDI & data exchange
• Basic familiarity with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems
• Exposure to ODEX or similar EDI platforms, document handling, mapping, and transmission
• Understanding of structured data formats used in supply chain and logistics environments
General
• Version control (Git or similar)
• Ability to read, understand, and extend existing codebases
• Basic understanding of networking and hosting environment
Advantageous
• Pastel (Sage) integration experience, API, data imports/exports, or custom reporting
• Experience in an MSP or multi-client environment
• Exposure to ERP or accounting software integrations
Role overview
