We just finished trials of Flyhalf Vision Beta. A VR rugby training simulator built for the Meta Quest 3.

90 players across 4 sessions in Pretoria and Stellenbosch. A prototype built in one week.

90% of players completed at least one defensive scenario on their first attempt.

What coaches said:
— Can teach body positioning on kicks and passes
— Perfect for injured players to stay mentally in the game
— Game-changing for penalty decision-making

What players said:
— "When does this go live?"

SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer said it at the 2026 National Community Rugby Workshop: "If they aren't on the system, they aren't in the game."

We're building the system.

If this is something your club, union, or academy needs — let's talk.

This is what it looks like running through two scenarios in Flyhalf Vision.

Read the defensive line. Kick over the top. Or swing it wide to the outside centre.

The grips do the work and your decision-making does the rest.

All the mechanics we've been breaking down this week, now in action.

Stellenbosch sessions with UXi Sport are underway. More coming soon.

Less explaining. More playing.

Read the defence. Kick over the top. Swing wide to the outside centre.

All the mechanics from this week — in action.

The penultimate clip in the mechanics series, and the last one before we demo again.

You can take the tackle in Flyhalf Vision. But in this prototype, that's never the right call. The whole point is to read, decide, and execute before the defence gets to you.

And don't let go of the grips! Your hands are the ball. Release at the wrong time and you've knocked it on. Just like real rugby.

The mechanic that ties it all together? Slow-mo. The moment you get close to the defensive line, time slows down. You get a few extra seconds to make your call. But wait too long and you're on your back.

Tomorrow we demo at the Western Province International Rugby Institute, alongside UXi Sport, in Stellenbosch.

Watch this space.

Last one before we demo again tomorrow.

Take the tackle? You can. But in this prototype — that's never the right call.

Drop the grips? You've dropped the ball. Just like real rugby.

But here's the part that changes everything: get close to the defensive line and time slows down. Three to four seconds to make your call. Hesitate too long and you're getting tackled anyway.

Tomorrow — Stellenbosch. New players. New coaches. Let's go.

Catch. Read. Now you have to deliver.

In Flyhalf Vision, passing isn't a button press: it's a motion. Soft swing and release for a short pass to your inside centre. Power through for a wide ball. The grips control everything.

And then there's the dummy. Same motion as a pass, but you don't let go. You sell it, pull back, and if the defender bites, you're through the gap.

The thing that makes it tricky? The difference between a perfect dummy and a knock-on is whether your hands let go at the wrong moment.

Clip three in the series. More coming this week ahead of the next live demo with UXi Sport at the WP International Rugby Institute in Stellenbosch.

Short pass. Wide pass. Dummy. Same motion, different outcome.

Short — gentle swing, release the grips.
Wide — power through, release the grips.
Dummy — sell it, but hold on. Make them bite. Then go score.

Let go at the wrong time and you've given it away. Hold on too long and you've missed the gap.

Clip 3. More dropping this week.

p.rugbyacademy we are heading your way!

You've caught the ball. The defensive line is rushing at you. Now what?

Read who's running too fast. Who's drifting wide. Find the gap.

If the read says kick then release both grips. But let go at the wrong time and you've dropped the ball instead or get tackled.

This is clip 2 in the series. More coming this week building up to the next live demo in Stellenbosch with .sport at .p.rugbyacademy

Monday was the catch. Today: the read and the kick.

You're running forward. The defensive line is closing. Blitz, drift, or rush. Each pattern gives you different options. You have to read who's running slow, who's coming too fast, who's drifting wide, and decide where the gap is.

If the read says kick: release both grips. But remember, you're holding the ball with those same grips. Let go at the wrong moment and you've knocked it on or you're getting tackled.

Clip two in the series. More dropping this week ahead of the next live demo at UXi Sport WP International Rugby Institute in Stellenbosch.

Before you can kick, pass, or dummy: you have to catch it first.

In Flyhalf Vision, the catch is grip-based. Squeeze both grips when the scrumhalf passes. Get the timing wrong and you've knocked it on before you've even made a decision.

This is the first in a series of clips breaking down the mechanics this week, building up to the next live demo in partnership with UXi Sport at Western Province International Rugby Institute in Stellenbosch.

More dropping soon.

It all starts with the catch.

Squeeze both grips when the ball comes. Get the timing wrong and you've dropped it before the play even begins.

This is the first in a series breaking down how Flyhalf Vision works, leading up to the next live demo at .p.rugbyacademy in Stellenbosch alongside .sport

More clips coming this week. Stay tuned.

Don't take our word for it. Hear what they thought.

30 rugby players from UXi Sport tried Flyhalf Vision for the first time. This video is their honest reactions after stepping out of the headset.

Building a VR rugby training simulator is one thing. Watching players actually respond to it is something else entirely.

Would you back yourself to make the right call with a defensive line rushing at you?
