Definitely one of the more unusual signal problems we’ve worked on.

MyCiTi was having an issue at the bus terminal underneath Cape Town’s Civic Centre.

When the buses stopped inside the terminal, the ticketing devices fitted to the buses were struggling to maintain connectivity.

We tested the signal where the buses park and saw readings around -115 dBm — very weak, and fluctuating.

So we tried something we haven’t done before.

A directional Yagi antenna was installed to pick up a strong signal from a nearby cell tower. We amplified it using a WilsonPro A1000 and then used a sector antenna to broadcast that signal down into the terminal.

The difference was pretty clear.

Afterwards, our test phone recorded readings as strong as -66 dBm at the bus stops, and the readers that had been struggling were now getting strong, reliable cellular signal.

We deal with weak signal inside buildings every day, but getting coverage to ticketing and tracking devices inside buses underneath a city building was a first.

Very cool application of a signal booster system — and a great result.

Choosing a signal booster should not feel like guesswork.

The right kit depends on more than the size of your home, office or vehicle. We look at:

✅ The strength and quality of the signal outside
✅ Which network and frequency bands are available
✅ The size and layout of the area you need to cover
✅ Building materials that may be blocking signal
✅ Whether you need a home, business or vehicle solution

That is why speaking to a signal expert before buying can save you time, frustration and money.

Tell us where you are experiencing poor signal and what you need improved — calls, mobile data or both — and our team will help point you in the right direction.

Contact Bolton Technical and let’s find the right solution for your space.

This is what happens before we recommend a cell phone signal solution.

A recent rooftop survey in Cape Town, testing the available cellular signal around the building.

We used our Siretta signal analyser with different antenna options, changing direction and position to compare the networks and towers available from the site.

It is not simply a case of finding the strongest reading and calling it a day.

We are looking for signal that is strong, clean and consistent. We also need to understand where it is coming from and whether it will provide a reliable source for the system we eventually design.

The closest tower is not always the best tower.
The strongest signal is not always the most usable signal.

And sometimes a small change in antenna direction or location makes a significant difference.

This is why we take our time during a survey.

A signal booster can only work with the signal feeding it. Get the source wrong, and even good equipment will struggle to deliver the results expected from it.

At Bolton Technical, we do not simply choose a system because it fits the floor area or the available budget.

We test the real conditions on site first. Then we design around what the data tells us.

It takes more time, but it is the difference between selling equipment and designing a cellular signal solution properly.

The best technology disappears into the experience.

You do not need to understand what is happening behind the scenes.

You do not need to manage complicated settings.
You do not need to constantly make adjustments.
You should not need an RF engineer standing beside it every day.

It should simply work.

That is the thinking behind WilsonPro cellular signal repeaters.

Once professionally designed and installed, the system automatically manages itself in the background—helping deliver stronger, more reliable cellular signal throughout the building.

No daily intervention.
No complicated user interface.
No unnecessary fiddling.

Just better calls, more reliable mobile connectivity and fewer dead zones.

The engineering is advanced.

The experience is beautifully simple.

WilsonPro. Built to work, without getting in the way.

Omni or directional antenna — what is the difference?

Think of it like lighting:

💡 An omni antenna works like a light bulb, spreading signal around the antenna.

🔦 A directional antenna works like a flashlight, focusing signal towards a specific area.

Omni antennas are great for open spaces and general coverage, while directional antennas are useful for corridors, targeted rooms and focused coverage.

The goal is not simply to choose the strongest antenna. It is to choose the coverage pattern that best suits the space.

The right antenna can make all the difference to your signal booster system.

Does everyone in the office know the one spot where the signal actually works?

That is usually a sign that the building is blocking cellular coverage.

Concrete, brick, steel and coated glass can weaken mobile signal indoors, leading to dropped calls, slow data, delayed OTPs and frustrating dead zones.

Bolton Technical supplies and installs cell phone signal booster solutions for offices and commercial buildings.

We assess the outdoor signal, the building layout and the areas with poor coverage before recommending a system designed for the space.

A properly designed solution can provide:

📞 Clearer calls
📱 Faster mobile data
🔐 More reliable OTPs
🏢 Better coverage in offices and meeting rooms
📡 Stronger signal across the workplace

Whether the problem affects one room, one floor or the entire building, we can help create a more connected workplace.

Your team should be working — not searching for signal.

Contact Bolton Technical to discuss a solution for your office.

In large buildings, mobile signal has to fight its way through concrete, steel, Low-E glass, multiple floors, lift shafts and long corridors. By the time it reaches the people inside, it may be weak, unreliable or completely gone.

A Distributed Antenna System, or DAS, solves this by distributing cellular signal through multiple strategically placed indoor antennas — delivering coverage where people actually work, move and communicate.

Think of it as a signal delivery system for your building.

A properly designed DAS can help provide:

✅More reliable voice calls
✅Better mobile data performance
✅Consistent coverage across multiple floors
✅Improved connectivity in difficult areas
✅A better experience for staff, visitors and customers

DAS solutions are ideal for offices, hospitals, hotels, warehouses, shopping centres, campuses and other large or complex buildings.

Strong Wi-Fi does not solve poor cellular signal.

You can have fast fibre, full Wi-Fi coverage and a perfectly connected office network—yet still struggle with dropped calls, delayed SMS messages and unreliable mobile data inside the building.

Why?

Because Wi-Fi and cellular signal are two different systems.

Concrete, steel, coated glass and building layout can weaken cellular coverage long before the signal reaches your staff, customers or devices.

The WilsonPro A1000 is designed to capture available outdoor cellular signal, amplify it and redistribute it indoors—helping improve calls and mobile data where the building itself is getting in the way.

But installing a booster is not a guessing game.

The right solution starts with understanding:

What signal is available outside
Which networks and frequencies need support
Where coverage is failing inside
How the building affects signal distribution

Your Wi-Fi may be working perfectly. Your cellular signal may still need help.
