Vergenoegd Löw is one of the oldest working farms in South Africa. The graceful Cape Dutch homestead dates to 1773 and is celebrated as a National Monument to this day. For generations they have been creating exceptional wines.

Our brief was to capture the heritage and quality of the wine combined with a modern touch. The client’s wish was to marry the old and new and bring to life the influence of the Löw family’s stamp of quality to the farm. Overall, the client preferred a clean yet understated design.

Our team started off by doing research on all the Vergenoegd wine labels from previous years. Inspiration was taken from the very first wine labels that included the homestead on the front label. The end product was designed with tradition and heritage in mind, combined with modern design elements. The emphasis is placed on the name "Vergenoegd Löw” along with a detailed illustration of the homestead as the centrepiece of this label.

The Löw family crest is of big importance as this ties in with the rebranding of Vergenoegd. We chose a gold foil to emphasise the crest that forms a centre focal point on this label.

G2 was tasked to design wine labels for Vergenoegd Löw. We combined their heritage and exceptional quality of wine with modern touch.

Cape Discovery, a wine range by Stellenview, utilises a exploration motiv by virtue of its brand name. For the Lifestyle wines the plan was to take this theme further and really embrace exploration and discovery. A sail design element with the Cape Discovery compass at its core was crafted. Although slightly abstract, a sun burst line component was used to fill the space with the specific aim of culminating on the Cape Discovery compass.

Cape Discovery, one of Stellenview's wine ranges, is a lifestyle. See how we reflect this on their new wine label designs

Zonnebloem approached G2 to and develop their website and . The client’s vision for Zonnebloem was a modern and light look and feel, combined with dusty cellars and moody images. They did not want the brand to look and seem “old”, but rather showcase its .

The functionality was also a priority for the client which included a seamless user-journey on mobile. We started off with designing the website for mobile responsiveness first. By doing so we were able to tackle some design issues that might have occurred later in the design process.

The design leads with moody banner images followed by product images. The images used throughout the website all have a similar colour palette. The clean, simplistic design allows the products to be the focal point of the website. Our team looked closely at the user journey, ensuring that the user can seamlessly navigate through the website without getting lost on a page.

Zonnbloem's new website was designed for mobile first, and the development prioritised the functionality to buy wine online. Have a look.

Signal Gun Wines is one of the oldest family-owned wine farms in the Durbanville area. We were privileged to design a range of for them. The brief included tweaking the brand’s existing wine labels as well as designing brand new labels for the Reserve Range. Our design team started off by tweaking the logo and the De Wit family crest as these are the main features on the labels. After visiting the farm we suggested that the primary brand colour change from gold to bronze. This colour is inspired by the colour of the soil in this area. The bronze is applied throughout the range of label designs. For the Family Reserve range we felt that the De Wit family crest should be the hero of the design. The grapes for the Sea Smoke Sauvignon Blanc comes from a block situated 455 meters above sea level – the highest vineyard in the Durbanville Wine Valley. The name “Sea Smoke” is derived from the cool ocean mist that often covers these vines. “Gun Smoke” refers to the smoke of old cannons when fired. The VOC installed more than 50 cannons on hills and mountains around the Cape to form a Signal Gun chain that could call the Burgher Militia to defend the Cape. Some of these cannons are still used to fire on the farm, 300 years later, on joyful occasions.

We were privileged to design a range of wine labels for Signal Gun Wines. The primary colour is inspired by the colour of the soil in this area. Have a look at our design process.

We are excited to share the design of the 2021 Cape Fine & Rare Wine Auction catalogue that was revealed at this year's auction.

The Cape Fine & Rare Wine Auction provides a platform for wineries to showcase their remarkable wines. This year’s theme focussed on the Cape - Treasure hunting through the diverse regions of the Cape Winelands.

On the cover the wine regions are shown by circular holes followed by a gold map page that indicates these areas.

For the 2021 Catalogue, our design team created a simplistic map to indicate wine regions of the Cape Winelands. This design element was then drawn through the entire catalogue. Have a look.

We were tasked to design and print a range of newspapers for Babylonstoren. The set consisted of English and Afrikaans versions that were released on a monthly basis. The aim of these newspapers were to inform hotel guests of upcoming workshops and events on the farm. We received beautiful illustrations from the artist Lucie De Moyencourt to be used on each month’s cover. The newspapers were printed in one colour on newsprint to provide a proper newspaper feel. The initial layout was done in a way so that it could be used as a template to add new information each month.

Designing the Farm News newspaper for Babylonstoren's hotel guests was an exciting monthly task. We set up the template in such a way that new info could be easily added and updated. Have a look.
