Installation Instructions

The HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows does not require installation.

To use the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows, simply download the file and run it.

1. Click the Download button and save the file to your computer.

2. Navigate to the location where you saved the file on your computer and double-click the HPPIW.EXE filename to open and run the wizard.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to use the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.

Is a Windows 7 printer driver available for your HP product?

If you purchased your HP printer after the release of the Windows 7 operating system, it will be supported with a full-feature driver. However, if your printer was sold before the release of Windows 7, it may or may not be supported, depending on how old it is.

You can view a list of HP printers supported in Windows 7, and the type of printer driver available for each one.

Where do l get print driver?

In a couple of places:

Software CDs. HP ships CDs with its printers, and it is a good idea to hang onto them for future use.

Downloaded software.

InOS drivers. Especially for newer operating systems, like Windows 8, there is already a basic driver included in the operating system

Why do you need a print driver?

Your HP printer doesn’t know what to do without a driver to manage it. Without a driver to translate, manage, and execute your commands, a printer can't do anything. It needs guidance.

Also, drivers help computers identify and run installed hardware (printer). Without drivers, computers cannot distinguish between a sound card and a modem. Most computer devices and peripherals need drivers to run, which means that computer accessories, like printers, also need drivers to function.

Choosing and installing the correct drivers for your printer is often a key component of computer system configuration.

What is a print driver

Think of a driver as the manager and translator for your printer.

When you tell your printer to print something, you are sending it a command. The driver works with a translator to translate your command into a language the printer understands, directs the printer what to do with the command, manages other tasks the printer might be doing, and instructs the printer to carry out your command. The drivers control the device and communicate with other hardware devices that you have installed on your computer.



In more complex terms, drivers are small software programs that help control devices attached to your computer. Drivers enable your operating system and other software to communicate with various hardware devices, controllers, and other peripherals.

How to install the downloaded software from the HP website:

Many products have more than one driver option on the downloads page. Choices might include a Basic type and a Full Feature type. If both options are available, the following information might help you decide which driver to download.
Basic driver

Downloads quickly
Runs the basic printer functions
Does not provide software needed to copy, fax, or use all the scanning features on an All-in-One printer

Full Feature driver

For All-in-One printers, provides complete product functionality for printing, scanning, copying, and faxing
Provides an important tool, HP Solution Center, to help with product maintenance, troubleshooting, software updates, and buying supplies
Provides a Custom installation option, in which you select the specific software items that you want to install.

HP recommends the Full Feature type of download, if available, to make sure that you get the best support for your HP product.

Follow these steps to download the product software and save it to your computer.

Disconnect the USB cable from both the product and the computer (if you already connected it).

Turn the product on.

Right-click this link: Get Software and Drivers, and then click Open in new window.

Type your product number, and then click Next. You might also need to click your model in a list of similar products.

Click Software & Driver Downloads.

Select your operating system, and then click Next.

Click the Plus sign (EC_PlusSign_icn) next to Driver, and then click the driver that you want to download. If you need help deciding, see the information in the previous table.

Read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click View directions (HPCC_QuestionMark_icn) for complete download instructions.

This option allows you to install the software at any time after the download completes.

Click Save, and then browse to the location on your computer where you want to save the file.

Click Save. The software downloads to your computer.

Hint: Make a note of the place that you saved the file, in case you want to install it at a later time.
