HOW TO RECOVER PERMANENTLY DELETED FILES ON YOUR PC.

File recovery software is something that can be somewhat of a life saving tool. Either deleting something by mistake, or simply realising that you need that file back which you purposefully deleted from your PC a while back, is a common occurrence which can happen to us all. In This post, we will be sharing what happens after deleting something from your PC and how to recover permanently deleted files back to your PC.

So the first thing I want to note here is the two types of deleting that a PC can do. The first type is the most commom one where by you select a folder and hit the "delete" button on your keyboard or right click on your mouse and then select "delete" from the options. What this simply does is send the selected file to the "Recycle Bin" which is found on the desktop of the PC. Files in the recycle bin can be restored back to their location from which they had been deleted. The second type of deleting files is by permanently deleting them and you can do so by either going to the Recycle Bin and deleting them from there or just press the Shift key along with pressing the Delete button to bypass the Recycle Bin and permanently delete the file.

Our focus however, is on the second type of permanently deleting or rather recovering the permanently deleted files. This is possible because of a simple explanation. When a file is permanently deleted, the PC does not actually remove the file from your Hard drive (Which is the primary storage place for your files in the computer.) What happens is the computer simply tells the Hard drive to make the particular file invisible so that it can be overwritten. So when saving something on your computer because it has free space to do so, it doesn't mean there isn't anything on that space, it just means the file occupying the space was given a command not to be vissible anymore until it is over written.

Now, because the file is still in your hard drive, it is good to know that it can be recovered. Even after the hard drive has been formated, the files will still be on the hard drive. However, it is important to know that files are only removable if they haven't been already over written as this is the actual process that makes them disappear from your hard drive and it is next to impossible to recover files once they're overwritten so make sure that if you're trying to recover files from a drive that has been over written about 2 or more times, you're less likely to succeed.

Now that we've gotten the theory and explanations out of the way, let's get down to how we can actually recover the files. The range of the types of files than can be recoverd really consist of almost any type out there including your videos, mp3s, pictures, word documents, pdfs you name it. Now to be able to recover these files, you will need a "File Recovery Software" which you can use and one of the most popular and out there is one called Recuva by the UK software company Piriform. The great thing about Recuva is that it's a free software which you can download here https://www.piriform.com/recuva/download/standard. It's only about 5.3 MB big and if you like the sofware and want to support the developers by donating or buying the premium version of the software, you can do so on their website. After downloading the SetUp, you will have to install it on your PC. After the SetUp runs, it will install a shortcut of the program on your desktop and you can run the program. On the welcome window, click "next" and click the option box indicating the type of files you want to restore and click "next." Select the location from which the files were deleted, if you don't know or don't remember where it was then click the option labeled "I'm not sure" at the top. Recuva will bring up a window wich informs you that it is ready to start scaning your drive for the deleted files and on that window, click the "Enable Deep Scan" checkbox, which might take a little more time but makes the search more efficient, and click the button labled start. Recuva will then scan for the files and display what it found. It will display a list of files, the location they were in, the last time they were modified, their size and also their state(if they're recovable or not). If their state is labeled "exlellent" check the files which you want to recover and click the "Recover" button. Recuva will ask you where you want to put the recoverd files and you should select another storage device (which maybe a second harddrive in your PC or USB/ external Hard drive connected on your PC) as you can only save the recoverd files on a different drive from the one it was originally saved. Recover will save the files on your selected location on the second storage device and you will have your permanently deleted files back just like that.

The process is really simple and straight forward and if you at all find any difficulties in recovering your files using Recuva, then please dont hesitate to ask in the comments. Please like and share if you found this post helpful..

Microprocessors AKA Central Processing Units (CPUs)

As much as people use computers today, the number of everyday computer users who actually know about the "heart" of a computer called the Micro Processor or Central Processing Unit(CPU in short), is surprisingly low. As I have been interacting with people, I found out that a lot of people don't even know about CPUs and someone even asked me if my computer was a P4 yesterday, so I thought I would write a post on CPUs and hopefully by the end of the post, more people will know more about them.

The CPU is basically a small chip mostly made of silicon that is attached to a computer motherboard so it can process all the data the user enters and bring out information as an end result. This CPU is basically what's going to be the measuring factor of how powerful a computer is, though other factors including the RAM and type of motherboard also play a part. (We will post more on RAM and Motherboards)

Now there are quite a number of different CPUs from different manufacturers currently available on the market and some of the top manufacturers include Intel, AMD, NVDIA, IBM just to name a few but the two most common ones are Intel and AMD processors. We are going to be looking at the Intel processors in this post as they're the most common.

Intel has a very big collection of generations of microprocessors since it started manufacturing them in 1971 so to give you the relevant information, I am not going to take you through the history of intel CPUs by listing them all, what I am going to do is just explain about the more recent ones and go a little deeper on my next post.

From 2006 - 20011, Intel produced the "Core 2" series wich comprised mainly of two types of CPUs which are Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad. They were named after the number of cores inside each one ie 2 cores and 4 cores respectively. This generation of CPUs was preceded by the popular Pentium 4 or P4 single core processor which was produced from 2000 - 2008 and were more of entry-level CPUs which were used when Laptops first came out, meaning with what we use computers today for, a P4 CPU is pretty much "Obsolete."

From 2010, Intel started manufacturing the "Core i"series which comprises of the Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7. I will go much deeper in my next post on the "Core i" series so if you have any questions, contributions or any. other topics you would want us to post about, feel free to write in the comments below.

10 KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT

Most of us are aware that there are keyboard shortcuts that can be used to make it easier and faster to give the computer commands, but how many do you actually know and use? Below is a list of 10 of those simple shortcuts that I often use and I found to make my computing experience much better and I hope they will help you out too.

NB. These shortcuts are for the Microsoft Windows Platform.

1) Ctrl + Shift + Esc
- Opens up the Windows Task Manager window.

2) Windows Button + D
-Minimizes all maximized windows and goes straight to Desktop.

3) Alt + Tab
- Switches between all running programs.

4) Ctrl + C and Ctrl +V
- Copy and Paste.

5) Windows Button + F
- Opens up the Find Window where you can search the entire computer just by typing in the search box.

6) Alt +F4
-Closes active window/ Opens up Shut Down Window if there are no active windows.

7) Ctrl + z and Ctrl + Y
- Undo and Redo.

8) Windows Button + L
- Instantly Locks the system without disrupting anything.

9) Shift + Del
- Permanently deletes file bypassing the recycle bin.

10) Shift + Home and Shift + End

Let's face it, in this day and age everybody needs a personal computer no mater who you are or what you do. Whether you are a student in high school or at a university, a teacher or lecturer or even a business person, you will need a PC to help you with your day to day activities.

Since there are different people around the world with different needs and different likes, there are lots and lots of different computers and brands out there to suit each and everyone's needs and knowing that, you would think everyone knows what kind of computer they need to address these needs of theirs but you would be surprised by the HUGE number of people out there who are using the wrong kinds of computers. By this I mean most times people overspend buying a big machine capable of doing functions they are never going to use while others buy a computer that can not perform efficiently and even worse, one that cant perform the tasks they bought it for in the first place.

This is true and it it happening a lot because people aren't consulting IT professionals before making their purchase or because people think they know everything about computers so they can just make the purchase only to find out later the computer they bought isn't really what they expected even performance wise. Some people even ask the sales people in the computer store before they make the the purchase, which really isn't a good idea because no sales person is really going to tell you their product isn't good enough for you because obviously they want to make a sale.

The best way to buy a computer is to DO YOUR RESEARCH. Spend at least one week looking around, online and asking around the experiences people have had with the one they are using. Not only that, get expert advice from an experienced professional who can assist you on your specific needs so that you may spend your money efficiently and be satisfied at the end of the day with your purchase.

We will be posting more hints and tips on computers and anything IT on this page, so feel free to comment or inbox us if you have any subject you need advice on and we will be happy to address your questions.
