One frame. Many voices. 💪

Ursula Schöberl (Ameres lab), who studied Molecular Biology at the University of Vienna, pursued research on small RNA-directed DNA elimination during her PhD at IMBA and investigated antibody diversification mechanisms as a postdoctoral researcher at the IMP. Since joining the Ameres lab in 2024, she has been exploring miRNA biogenesis, focusing on the dicing and Ago-loading steps – bringing the same endurance and persistence to science that she sees in sports 🏃‍♀️

🍻 Science belongs everywhere – even in the pub! is an international science festival bringing researchers into the pubs next door – sharing their research (and some drinks) 👀

Tonight, Perutz PI Tom Leonard connected Max Perutz, Artemis II, and kinase research in his talk, while AITHYRA PI Jason Nomburg shared his fascination for viruses – and why hantaviruses are best avoided. Cheers to a great evening of science and storytelling! 🔬✨

🎉 New funding for Perutz group leader Bojan Žagrović: his newly funded project will investigate whether frameshift mutations – long considered harmful – can still produce functional proteins, combining AI-based structure prediction with computational and experimental approaches 💡

Paper alert! 📢 How do cancer cells turn chaos into survival? Sophie Koller (Campbell lab) created a unique yeast collection with defined aneuploid chromosome combinations – revealing in EMBO Reports that drug resistance arises from subtle changes across many genes, not just one 🧬
