Science should be a space where curiosity and different perspectives can thrive, regardless of gender – a principle Nellie strongly believes in 🙌 Nellie studied Biology at the University of Munich before moving to Vienna to pursue a Master’s in Molecular Precision Medicine at MedUni Vienna. She joined the Huis lab in October last year, where she investigates how topoisomerases enable sister chromatid decatenation and ensure faithful chromosome segregation using biochemical reconstitution.

🚨 Out now! Meet the ER’s multi-trick pony: a new study from the Karagöz lab in Genes & Development uncovers how the RNA-binding protein IGF2BP3 helps cells cope with stress by fine-tuning the unfolded protein response, revealing a hidden layer of regulation that determines whether cells adapt – or fail.

One frame. Many voices. 🙌

Originally from Germany, Theresia Brennecke completed her graduate studies in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Bayreuth before moving to Vienna to start her PhD in the Köhler lab in 2025. Her research uses biochemical approaches to uncover how histone-ubiquitination condensates contribute to cellular processes and reveal the mechanisms that shape life at the molecular level. Her journey reflects how science thrives through different perspectives, backgrounds, and approaches, aiming for new ideas and discoveries 💡

🧠 How do mutations in a single gene alter the developing human brain? With new support from the Wissenschaftsfonds FWF, Perutz group leader Dea Slade will use stem cell and organoid models to uncover how disease-associated changes in PHF3 disrupt neuronal development and contribute to disorders such as microcephaly and autism spectrum disorder 👀
