What do you think is the Most Difficult thing when getting a website created?
Here are some of the typical responses we get - What platform to use - Wordpress? Joomla? Something else? Where to get it hosted? Locally in Australia or Internationally which might prove more cost effective? Whether to use a template or have it customer designed from scratch? What is the style guide going to have in it? etc etc etc… Now while all these things might be things to really consider and work through with the designers, there is a sticking point for most business owners who want to build a website and communicate effectively with their customers. It is generally the part that most web design providers come unstuck at supporting very well, and for the large part it's not because their technical ability is lacking.
What I am honing in on is the content for your website. What am I going to say to my customers? What words and media am I going to incorporate into my website? This is something that is worth really spending some time on, and whatever someone may say, it is not something that you can outsource that effectively to anyone else other than someone who lives and breathes the business, in particular the words that will go on the website.
So before you go hiring a web designer, take some time, and that time could be between 1 - 3 months to really get your thoughts down on paper as to what will go on the different pages. All of this will not come in one sitting, and there are several things that need to be written for the different parts of the website. For example on your About us page - you might want to include your Vision, Mission and Purpose. Now if that is not clearly defined yet, it will be another process that you will need to go and do to create that, hence the reason for not rushing it.
