When was the last time you were on the caller’s side of your customer experience?

We found many business owners in general managers don’t actually realise how overwhelmed or overly interrupted their front desk. Team can be at times.

Nor do they understand how that impacts not just a customer experience, but their bottom line too.

Three words in this review that nobody budgets for: "when on other calls".

You're not ignoring the phone. You're already on it, with a customer, doing the job.

And while you're doing that, the next one rings out and goes to whoever picks up first.

Nobody writes that down as a lost job. It just doesn't happen.

So that revenue line isn't the AI being clever. That's the calls that were already coming in, finally getting answered.

Thanks for this one. Genuinely made my week.

So to be clear, we aren’t replacing Receptionists, we are optimising them. That’s the name.

If someone is sat in that chair eight hours a day having the same five or six conversations interrupt them 50 times a day, that’s your money and their time going nowhere, and they’re not learning anything that gets them further. Hand us the first call and that same person spends 15 hours a week on work that build something, like your sales team getting 15 hours back on the phone.

They’re not meant to just answer the same calls all day. We can do that.

Where do you draw the line on what should be automated?

26/10/2026

Three days ago we hired our first employee.

Not for the big stuff. For call reviews. In voice you can’t accept 90% quality, it has to be 99%, because a 5% dip is instantly obvious when someone is actually talking to you. And it’s worse again when it’s a caller’s first contact with a business. So every new client and every existing client, a lot of time goes into listening back and tweaking.

That’s his job. A second set of eyes on every call. It’s already made more difference than I expected.

I’ve been saying “we” for a while because I call the agents employees. Now it’s actually we.

What was the first role you hired for?

A magazine emailed wanting to put me on their cover. Twelve page story, awards, the lot. I read it twice. Felt pretty good.

Then a bit further down, three and a half grand US to participate.

Doesn't sit right with me. You're not supposed to pay to be awarded something. It's just advertising at that point.

The recognition I want is the bloke who pays us a second month because the first one worked out, and the client who sends a referral because their agent's doing its job.

What's a win you've had that nobody gave you a certificate for?

5:56am. Servo sausage roll, Up and Go, 45 minutes to Glow Church.

The event started at 8:30. We had to be there at 6:30.

I crewed Dreamfest this year instead of attending it. It's a completely different view. You see the room before it fills, chairs empty, a program on every seat. Then you watch a thousand people come through it.

I went in wanting to learn how the event side runs at that size. I got that.

But it's not what I walked away with.

Every time I decide I've finally heard of everyone on the Gold Coast doing something big, I get corrected. Not sometimes. Every time.

There's more happening in this city than I know about.

So here's my ask. If you're in the Gold Coast space and there's a room I should be in, send it to me. Shoot me a message. An event, a meetup, a breakfast, doesn't matter how small.

I want to get more involved.

Thank you Ethan Donati for bringing us Australian Marketing Summit this last Tuesday!

𝗠𝘆 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲:
1️⃣AI is enhancing other areas of business not just front desk communications.

2️⃣I need to create a shareable moment for our webinar where audience members feel proud to be a part of what we're doing.

3️⃣People will judge me on my age. Despite the fact that AI came about when I was in a peak learning period of life, university, and I've already been immersed in technology my whole life. I'd prefer a 22 year old who's been learning tech for 16 years over a 60 year old who knows how newspapers used to work in business when implementing new tech in my business.

Many gold nuggets were found and too many notes were written this week. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about bringing attention and people to Optiphone beyond just sitting in my dark room building all day and experts like you make that so much easier.

Insta saw it first!

What a great opportunity to test our agents against the market!

Founder Log — Week of 27 May 2026.

This week and honestly last week too have been fully on lead generation for Optiphone.

The product's figured out. We've invested heavily in sales training and processes which we've tested to some degree with existing clients. Where we're at now is the final missing piece: attention. If no one knows we exist, the rest of it doesn't matter.

There's a million ways to market — Meta, Google, SEO, flyers, everything in between. Had a bit of analysis paralysis picking the channel.

But all of these can work. Not if you pick all of them. You have to choose one and probably invest more than you're expecting.

After talking to my mentors last week, we've landed on a process I think will work. Obviously remains to be tested. Stay tuned.

Still heading toward 30 clients. What's the one channel you'd go all-in on right now?

The agent scored 9 out of 10. The customer was still unhappy.

We had a call this week where our AI handled everything right. Took the message. Closed the call cleanly. Protected the customer's data. By every metric, it nailed it.

Except when the customer realised they were talking to a machine, that's when their tone shifted to frustrated. That's a fail in our books.

This is why we review every call where the customer wasn't happy, even when the agent technically did its job perfectly. The score doesn't matter if the experience didn't land.

How are you measuring customer experience in your business?
