Outage frequency is improving industry-wide. Severity risk isn’t going anywhere.

Uptime Institute’s 2026 Global Data Center Survey found 47% of operators reported at least one impactful outage in the past three years, and 10% of those were serious or severe.

Fewer outages doesn’t cancel out the fact that when something goes wrong today, it’s more likely to go seriously wrong.

Why severity is climbing even as frequency improves:
- Higher-density, more complex environments mean more can go wrong at once
- Aging infrastructure carrying workloads it wasn’t sized for
- Thinner margins for error as uptime expectations keep rising

How Microserve builds for both:
- Infrastructure assessments that catch failure points before they compound
- Hybrid architecture that reduces single points of failure by design
- Managed support built around prevention, not just faster response

Fewer outages is good news. It’s not the same as being ready for the one that gets through.

The problem isn’t where we work, it’s how we work.

At LeadIT 2025, Microserve CTO Nigel Brown brought the collaboration conversation back to everyday working habits: too many meetings, too little focus time and unclear expectations across teams.

His challenge to leaders was to examine those habits wherever their people work. It’s a practical example of the organizational change that needs to accompany our technology decisions.

Most CIOs know outages are expensive. Fewer know the fix is often visibility, not more hardware.

New Relic’s 2025 Observability Forecast found high-impact outages carry a median cost of $2 million per hour, but organizations with full-stack observability reported half that.

They also detected outages 7 minutes faster and were half as likely to face a high-impact outage weekly (23% vs. 40%).

The pattern behind the numbers:
- Fragmented monitoring means nobody sees the full picture until it’s too late
- Detection time stretches out when teams stitch together five dashboards
- Reactive firefighting instead of proactive, correlated alerting

Where Microserve fits in:
- Managed network and infrastructure monitoring with a single, correlated view
- Proactive alerting designed to catch issues before they become incidents
- 24/7 support that shortens detection and resolution time when it counts

Every dashboard you don’t have is a minute you’ll never get back.

Microserve announces LeadIT Line Up of Speakers:

🎤 Meet Nigel Brown

With nearly three decades of experience in IT, Nigel Brown brings extensive expertise in technology strategy, cybersecurity, cloud, data centres, and converged communications. As Chief Technology Officer at Microserve, he oversees multiple departments, leads specialized technology teams, and drives service innovation while advising clients and shaping technology strategy.

Drawing on his experience leading technology strategy and developing new technology services, Nigel’s LeadIT session, “The Real Economics of Running AI," explores the changing economics of AI and what it means for organizations managing technology costs at scale.

Every organization is now paying for intelligence the way it once paid for electricity or bandwidth: metered, volatile, and increasingly consequential to the bottom line.

Nigel will examine what is driving AI costs today from token economics and energy consumption to governance and data sovereignty and why organizations need to rethink how they budget for AI.

The session will introduce a practical framework for treating AI spending as a financial discipline, including model routing as FinOps, matching workloads to the right infrastructure, and understanding Canadian data sovereignty requirements.

Join us at Microserve LeadIT 2026 to hear Nigel share his perspective on the real economics of AI and how organizations can approach AI spending more strategically.

Canadian ransomware isn’t just an encryption problem anymore, it’s an extortion problem.

CIRA’s 2025 Cybersecurity Survey found 24% of Canadian organizations were ransomware victims in the past 12 months.

Among those hit, 74% reported data exfiltration and 74% paid a ransom, typically CAD $25,000 or more.

Even a perfect backup doesn’t undo the fact that your data already left the building.

What a backup-only strategy misses:
- Data exfiltration happens before encryption, recovery doesn’t reverse it
- Ransom decisions get made under pressure, without a pre-built playbook
- Regulatory and client notification obligations kick in the moment data leaves

What Microserve builds instead:
- Immutable, tested backup and recovery for the encryption half of the equation
- Threat detection focused on catching exfiltration before it happens
- A documented incident response plan so ransom decisions aren’t made in a panic

Recovery is half the plan. Prevention and detection are the other half.

Microserve announces LeadIT Line Up of Speakers!

🎤 Meet Jason George
Chief Revenue Officer, ThinkOn

With more than 20 years of experience in channel-led technology companies, Jason George brings a practical perspective on cloud, AI, and technology strategy. As Chief Revenue Officer at ThinkOn, a Canadian cloud provider serving commercial and public sector organizations, Jason works closely with organizations navigating the evolving technology landscape.

His experience spans organizations including BlackBerry, Auvik, eSentire, and SOTI, where he has built revenue teams and helped organizations adopt and apply emerging technologies. Today, Jason uses AI extensively in his own work and across his revenue teams, bringing a practical, real-world perspective to the conversation around sovereignty and private AI.

Jason’s LeadIT session, “Who Can Switch It Off? Cloud and AI Sovereignty for People Who Sign the PO,” gives senior IT leaders a practical framework for evaluating cloud and AI decisions.
Every cloud vendor says they are sovereign. But sovereignty goes far beyond where your data sits.

With real examples from Canadian organizations and a focus on practical decision-making, Jason will also explore situations where the right answer may be that you don't need sovereignty at all.

Join us at Microserve LeadIT 2026 to hear Jason share a practical perspective on cloud and AI sovereignty and what IT leaders need to consider before making their next technology decision.
