It’s the end of May and that means it’s time for the The Thievius Raccoonus Sale!

What does that mean exactly?

Well, it means for today and tomorrow pre-played games are 14% off (in store and online).

So there’s no confusion we’re talking May 29th and May 30th. It’s for all pre played games for all systems. The sale also includes game guides.

On top of that we recently lowered the prices on a ton of games for the current generation consoles. You can find those in the sale section of the website.

You may be asking yourself what does Thievius Raccoonus have to do with anything and what’s with the 14%?

It’s really quite simple. Recently we started played the Sly Cooper series at home. It’s a really fun game with a whole Ocean’s 11 kinda feel. Kids love it, I love it, it’s good. The Thieves Raccoonus is the Sly family book with all the knowhow on thieving. Plus on the corny side with 14% of the games are practically a steal! (Har har har). For the 14% you can thank a D20 for that.

Happy shopping!

Some new things in the shop - honourable mention for the 2 New 3DS XL consoles, something we don’t see too often!

More updates once I finish cleaning up and listing some bigger trade ins in the next few days. Some weeks it’s slow going as I’m a one man operation but you can be certain your new finds will be worthy of being added to your collection.

Have a great day! 😎🌞

Open 9-5 today! 🥳 Here are a couple games that deserve a spot on the feed.

It’s another week at the Retro Room and I’m jazzes to show off some of the latest trade ins. We’d had a few customers bring in some Switch games last week and they’re ready to go.

The Nintendo Switch is a great console and has the largest selection of Physical games out there. It would be tough for any collector to get them all and then the question is how much shelf space do you need?

The Switch isn’t the strongest console on the market but proof that you don’t need to be a tank in power to run great games.

Swipe to see some of the latest pre-played Switch titles and check out the whole selection in store or online.

A few that I’d like to highlight are:

Pokemon Pearl and Diamond Double Pack - Because 2 Pokemon games are better than 1.

Dragon Quest XI S - For the 2D old school style.

River City Girls - Great Beat em up.

Blossom Tales - Limited Run and limited.

P4G Golden - The Persona series is quite an experience.

Have a great week!

Welcome to the Retro Room!

We’re a Retro Video Game shop located in Carleton Place, Ontario. Been open for over 3 years and we pride ourselves on great selection, fair trades, sticker-less pre played games and a friendly place to visit.

Rather than show all the cool new trades we’ve had recently (you can check our stories for those 😉) I figured it’d be nice to take pictures around the shop.

Since we started the shop we’ve more than doubled in size and quadrupled in selection. I won’t claim to have the most games in all of Ontario or Canada but we have some damn good options.

Photo 1 | This wall changes all the time. It’s full of some of the more sought after games from all different systems.

Photo 2 | I love controllers and try to keep a good variety. We have from casual to serious gamer level choices. Some of the brands include, Retro Fighters, CRKD and 8bitdo.

Photo 3 | Guides are amazing. I always say a great way to replay the game without putting 30 hours in.

Photo 4 | We have a good range of accessories for most consoles and adapters to hook them up via HDMI.

Photo 5 | One of my favorite sections is the Legend of Zelda and Pokemon cabinet.

Photo 6 | The PS1 section (one of my favourites) has recently been updated with over 130 new titles.

Photo 7 | Plushies!

Photo 8 | The Jungle Green 64! and surrounded by Skylander Trap Crystals (the Skylander figures are in store only).

Photo 9 | Amiibos are still very fun to collect and there’s a lot of them all around the shop.

Photo 10 | ROB! The hero of gaming and presenter of business cards for the shop.

Have a great weekend everyone and I hope to see you in the shop soon.

Here’s what’s new at the Retro Room 😎

Over a hundred new titles for the PlayStation 1🤯 From Spyro to Duke Nukem and beyond. Its a great new selection and a much needed update. The photos show range of the games but not all of them so definitely check out the site.

Many people ask us where we source our games from. We have a few avenues but for the most part they come from trade ins. The Retro Room could not exist without trades which is a great way to support us even if you’re not a gamer. The best way to start the process is by sending an email with a list and photos of what you’re looking to trade. From there you’ll get an estimate which is finalized after an in person inspection. The whole process usually takes a few days depending on what’s being traded in and the quantity of items. If you have any questions about trading games in or have a collection you’re looking to part with let us know.

Now back to the games.

Aside from the PlayStation collection we’ve also received a handful of GameCube titles along with PSP, and PS4. The bigger games that stick out right away are the Mario Partys and PaRappa. It’s nice to have more pre played copies of Red Dead II and The Witcher.
The last photo has a bunch of random carts (sometimes trades are random like that) however there’s a nice looking Teal Gameboy Color in the box. This one is in really good condition so I just had to point it out.

That’s all for now. Have a great week!

Our Anniversary Sale continues until midnight tonight! 🎉🥳 You’ve really blown us away with your orders yesterday! Thank you for celebrating with us.

I opened the Retro Room 3 years ago in a tiny room of a century home. It was about 400-500 sq ft and I somehow made it work. I wanted to show a few photos of my journey to this point.

1. Sale details

2. What our shop looked like on opening day. Our selection was smaller because of the space I had but it was still a very aesthetic shop.

3. Me with Leon next to the first of many custom builds I did for the shop. You can find this one at our current shop holding the PS2 and PS3 games

4. First merch order I ever made to bring in plushies and 3rd party accessories. With so many options, it was hard to narrow down what would go on my limited shelf space but my customers had many great requests and suggestions which helped!

5. One of the last photos of the old location before we made our big move. As you can see it was small!

6. First visit to CP to see the new shop. Hillary found the listing on Marketplace and we came to visit 2 days later. We sat down at a coffee shop after and talked about how we would make it work.

7. First time opening the doors as our own space. Hottest day of the year, we were dying of heat!

8. Boxes being moved in with no shelving to hold the merch just yet. It was pretty daunting at this point.

9. Me breaking a counter that was left in our space. It was too big to move out of the door (built inside the shop?) so I had fun kicking it down. I saved the top which was solid wood and repurposed it in my current check out counter.

9. Fixing up some handheld consoles that are now long gone and in their new homes. I miss that Pikachu SP.

10. Opening Day pic 🎉

Thanks for riding along with me on this journey. To any more!!
